Vilnius is a Baltic pearl. Having visited a great number of European countries and cities, big and small, I was really surprised how Vilnius out-stands them all in many aspects. This city is so vivid and bright, young and artistic, it does not look similar to anything else. Hosting many talented and artistic people, it seems to be very functional and evolving, while still taking care of culture and tradition and integrating all aspects and requests of modern society with now damage to nature, harmony and ecology. This is like if druids from some fantasy novel would have built themselves a city and took good loving care of it. People of Vilnius are great. Vilnius is very modern and focused on evolving its banking system and researching financial technologies, but even so - it still has strong connection to its rural areas and you can feel nature and rural vibes in people and streets, even if you see people on expensive BMW's and Helentwagens, wearing strict business dresses - you will still fill this Lithuanian spirit, loving and respectful to the nature. This central concept helps the whole city stay harmonic and very green almost effortlessly. It is surprising how much Vilnius is underrated, but on the other hand, its great that its not drowning in tourists, you will still easily find a seat in local coffee shop to take a warming cup of coffee with desert and enjoy a great view on the beautiful Vokiečių street. You should come and walk not only in the center of Vilnius, but also in more distant districts, just allocate more time for your travel and in different areas you will get reach atmospheric and existential experience. Not to mention that it is one of the cleanest cities in Europe and definitely one of the safest.
Centre was very easy to walk around and very safe, good selection of bars and restaurants and shopping facilities, probably the best transport option from any city I have visited 1 Euro bus journey . The Airport was very stylish and had some great architecture.
Gladly surprised with the city. Really fun and interesting. Uzupis is the area to stay and party. Really young and alternative vibe. I bought a public transportation pass for 3 days but honestly I could have done without it. You can walk pretty much everywhere.
A compact city with lots of history and interesting architecture. So many lovely cafes and restaurants around the city. A lot of the city is walkable. Museums are closed on Mondays so consider that in your planning.
Nice old town if a little "touristy". Plenty of culture, museums etc. availible. Good food, friendly prices and still very affordable compared to most major EU cities. (Although no longer quite as "dirt cheap" as when I traveled to Vilnius for work in the early 10:s.)
It's a peaceful, cosy city, less fabled and hyped as some other European capitals. Though the historical legacy of abundant of churches and modern glassy skyscrapers merged into a spectacular scene of the Baltic country in her booming period. More importantly, it's a relatively tidy city, even if many antique parts of the city are being reconstructed, it's uneasy to sense a dusty feeling in the hot summer. And people are well respected, as a Chinese, I realise there are too few Asian counterparts to be found in Lithuania, local people show curiosity instead of aggressive attitude. Not that hospitable, and not that indifferent. Even though the politicians show hostile attitude to China, I have a positive impression by the shy smiles people gave to me.
