This stay was purely for transfer to the airport the next day, so just needed a bed for the night and a taxi to the airport the following day
However I have stayed in Kalamata many times before, and it is a wonderful city for a short break, with a great choice of lively cafes and eateries on the seafront.
The traffic is lighter along the seafront than in most Greek cities; Kalamata feels safe to walk around at night and in the daytime there are some interesting historic areas and museums to visit.

Kalamata is a fantastic place but it does take a while to become familiar with it. We've been on many occasions and we prefer to take the bus in (from Stoupa) because we find driving in Kalamata quite stressful. This is not because of the Greek drivers who are very courteous but more because we are not too familiar with the roads.
Our favourite place to visit is the market, which is on Saturdays and Wednesdays and it is fantastic. The quality, selection and price (and especially the price) are fantastic. The bus station is just across the road from the market so not far to walk.

Kalamata is a great small city in the Peloponnes, which caters for every interest. It has a some historical places, a beautiful old town with tradtional shops, an amazing coast with beaches, super clean water, very good and afordable restaurants and bars and a great ambiance. A city which you can explore easily by foot.
Further it can be used as a base for some of the most interesting places to visit in the Peloponnes like Mani, Mystras, Koroni, ancient Messene, the Apollon Temple and a lot more.

What an absolutely amazing growing metropolis!
What an absolutely amazing growing metropolis! Safe, secure, welcoming, fashion oriented, health conscious residents and simply a pleasure being around.
Simply attending a town square on any given night will be demonstration enough to illustrate the hospitable welcoming people of Kalamata with children of all ages playing with each-other, (no phones included, LOL), laughing, talking as kids should!
Everyone is not only healthy, but fit. It was astonishing that we struggled with my wife to find any unfit person in hundreds of people, especially the kids in town!
Bravo Kalamata... you are doing things right!
First I need to say that the hotel staff is very good, friendly and helpful (as usual in Greece). They are here to assist you everytime you need something. Hotel has a good location - supermarket, port, beach, bus station and many bars, restaurants and coffees nearby.
On the highest floor there is pool with a nice view (I just thought there will be a pool bar as it seems it used to be there but wasn't. However, nice young lady from reception came twice to bring something to another guests).
I liked everything about Pharae Palace. We had a room on the fourth floor with a big balcony and a lovely sea view. The beds were the most comfortable we’ve ever had in Greece. The room was spotlessly clean and the soundproofing was very effective, we were there on a Saturday night and it was noisy out but once we closed the balcony door you couldn’t hear a thing. The air conditioning was also very quiet. There was an excellent choice at breakfast, everything you could want and more,
This hotel is not far away from Kalamata which could be a great advantage or disadvantage, depending on what one seeks. It has a private beach but the shore is full of small and bigger pebbles which makes it difficult to walk there barefooted or wade. We enjoyed a huge private parking next to the hotel and the view to the sea. The receptionist was comprehensive and changed the initial room facing the noisy side to the other one room which was much more silent.
Although the location as it appears in google maps appears to be at the end of the city - at least this is what I thought - the hotel is located very close - 2-5 minute walk from the center square and the old town. Extremely convenient for whoever wants to get to know Kalamata which turned out to be one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in the country. No breakfast if offered but a nice coffee shop is located next to the hotel entrance,
Semiramis Suites is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Everything about the hotel impresses, from the attentive and knowledgeable owner to the pristine and tranquil ambiance. The rooms are exceptionally prepared, boasting all the essentials like hairdryers, a fully equipped kitchen, and bathroom appliances. With its pool and private jacuzzi, this place doesn't just promise luxury; it delivers a slice of paradise
This apartment was amazing! Modern, clean and big. We loved our stay here! It was the most central location you can get in Kalamata with only a 2 minute walk to amazing restaurants and bars. The washing machine was such a help and I loved the Nespresso machine and milk frother. Patio / balcony was massive with stunning views. I would only stay here if in Kalamata again.
Galaxy Hotel is located almost directly in the center of Kalamata. Although the hotel is dated, you lack nothing. The hotel is not expensive at all. We stayed there the day before our departure from Kalamata airport. Nothing wrong with the hotel, Excellent breakfast, enjoyed it very much. I would definitely book it again next time. In short: value for money!
Aside from the unforgetable views, the beautiful stay and location that was close to local beach's, restaurants and attractions, the hosts and essentailly Dimitri were lovely and
very accomondating and attended to very need. We loved our daily chat's with Yiayia who we will miss dearly. Petra Thea has been a highlight of our holiday to Greece !
Beautiful hotel, clean and spacious with very comfortable bed and pillows. The staff was very pleasant and polite, the pool area felt luxurious with pool side bar and food service available. The views from the pool area are spectacular, we were able to capture stunning sunsets overlooking the city and Gulf of Kalamata.
The view from the apartment was amazing and apartment was very comfortable and felt like home during the time we spent in Greece.
Great hosts that were really helpful and had eyes for our needs eg they replaced a pillow with a smaller one that worked better.
We would recommend this place to anyone.
The building is really beautiful but the interior design of the hotel looks like an Instagram post. As a result the rooms are missing key features like wall hangers or shelves in the bathroom.
The location is probably the best in the city since you can get everywhere on foot.
The apartment has everything you need; it is especially perfect for a couple. The owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and extremely helpful. I will definitely choose to stay there again, should I go back to Kalamata. It a great value for money choice.
Location was good for dinner. We didn’t have time to shopping but there is a Jumbo store close to hotel. Free parking space in front of the hotel for our motorcycles. Lady in the reception was so kind and gibe us a good advice for dinner and bar
Nicely decorated hotel on a central location in Kalamata. Very cozy rooms and great staff to help you out. Highly recommended when looking for a place to stay in Kalamata.
Excellent Hotel amenities (restaurants, pool and in particular been on the beach and the overall grounds). Hotel staff were excellent (attentive and curteous).
