Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island. The local people were so friendly. It’s a wonderful place to explore the reef and nature of the island. Make sure you have google translate as it an be difficult to work out the menus. We loved the snorkeling trip, saw turtles, sea snakes and Nemo. Bana park is lovely to explore. So much to do here. We hired a car to explore the whole island.

Tip: 1) avoid the buses as most as you can! Bikerentals are awesome! Maesato beach belongs to a hotel but day guests are welcome, just follow the signs on the property.
Tip 2) Definitely take a ferry to Taketomi, rent a bike there
Tip 3) Taxi to airport is about 3500 yen
Tip 4) Find out when rain season is

Most of the island's attractions - shopping, restaurants, hotels, the port to access other islands and the airport bus - are within a two minute walk of each other. I didn't visit the attractions outside of the centre because I didn't have a car and the local buses didn't run frequently but I had lots to do nonetheless. Took a very enjoyable day trip to Taketomi Island.

The accommodation offered a breathtaking view of coral reefs with a lush jungle as its backdrop. We spent our days walking down to the nearby beach, enjoying swims and snorkelling adventures in the warm waters. Our host even took us on a tour where he showed us clownfish, adding a layer of wonder to our stay. If you're a nature enthusiast yearning for a tropical escape that connects you with the natural world, this place is an absolute paradise.

I liked that you can get around in short time and still have a big variety of things you can do. I was there in Feb and no watersports was possible for me as it was too cold. Went to Karibe for a walk and to Iriomote for a bike ride.

A beautiful island, which is surprisingly big as it takes about 3 hours / 120km to drive the ourter circumference.
Once you get outside of the main town it is exceedingly quite, with beachtiful beaches and countryside.
A car is a must!
The main town has easy access by boat to other remote islands. Taketomi was only about 15 minutes away, with stunning beaches, a good bike rental service with shuttle bus from the port and ox-cart rides!

Very nice family hotel, with good breakfast, amazing splash park, OK beach and good paid restaurants. Villas are set in a beautiful, well maintained garden, the service is japanese standard (veeeery good!), oh, and we loved the onsen! There's a free bus going to and from the airport (didn't know that, paid for the taxi there, it's not enough advertised!), there's also a bus stop in front of the hotel taking you to ishigaki town and Kabira bay (not very frequent, but punctual and cheap).
Almost nothing. If you’re a couple don’t go there. There are kids everywhere. You cannot enter the swimming pool because it’s constantly occupied by kids playing with balls etc. Prices are insanely high considering the hotel structure, location and services offered. The day we arrived we wanted to book marine activities but it was all already booked. There was nothing you could do expect snorkeling within a limited area. I will never go there again in my life.
The hotel room was very clean and I liked the overall atmosphere! There was even a washer and dryer in the room. The coffee and drinks available in the lobby were also very good. The location was very convenient as it is a 20-minute walk or short drive to the ferry terminal/downtown area. However, the very best part was the owner and staff, who were incredibly generous and kind. We hope to visit here again next time we visit Ishigaki.
Wonderful hotel - it’s brand new and super clean, the location is perfect, just 5 mins walk from the port and the bus terminal; restaurants and convenience store are just one minute away. Despite its central location in the middle of commercial area, the rooms are very quiet. I liked the modern design of the rooms with modern style “concrete” walls. The hotel also has washing and drying machines.
Highly recommended.
The hotel is very nice and comfy with a great location (10 min walking distance from a beautiful beach with all the facilities you need - changing room, shower, etc).
The staff is really nice and helpful and it was a pleasure having conversation with them. Once again, I would like to thank them for their kindness and availability.
We had a so pleasant and great stay
You should also try the BBQ dinner :) !
We have been to Ishigaki Island many times and have enjoyed all kinds of accommodation. If you go for shopping, nightlife and action, this is definitely NOT your place. But if you are looking for a place to relax, in beautiful surroundings, with a beach all for yourself, gorgeous sunsets, and a very well equipped house along with great hosts, this is the perfect place to stay.
The main attraction close to Joya is Kabira Bay. Apart frm that, it’s pretty far frm the other attractions.
At night, it gets so dark in the area that you can get a clear view of the Milky way and catch the meteor showers!
The hotel is super clean and I had alot of fun making the futon. The owner’s exceptionally helpful and helped me get familiar quickly:)
The room was a great size, beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. This hotel is close to the port, which is why we booked it. It's also close to shops and restaurants. They make you fresh rice balls for breakfast, which was wonderful and they were delicious. Would happily stay here again, very good value for money.
- Small and exclusive hotel secluded from more touristy areas
- Really nicely renovated, beautifully designed rooms (no tv with smart capabilities for those who care)
- 5 minute walk to the next beach (which is beautiful)
- At times there is a little coffee truck on an empty plot vis a vis from the hotel. Get coffee there!
These are basic rooms in a very nice area. The rooms are quite appropriate for the price and I was satisfied with my stay. There are bicycles for use that are very handy for visiting the local restaurants and beaches. The hotel is easily accessible by Azuma bus stop Yamabare. The rooms and facility were quiet.
The location is great and not too close to the city. The hotel could manage our transportation and that was great. Despite the room was small but we enjoyed the quiet beautiful nature surrounded the hotel. We enjoyed the ocean view from the room also.
The breakfast was great, with lots of local specialties. We loved the pool, there are free floats and armbands to use. The hotel itself is very clean and the staff are lovely. It's my second time to stay there and I'd like to stay again.
we stayed for 2 night for friend’s wedding. great value for ocean front hotel with large open air bath like hot spring. whole facility is very clean and easy to access anywhere. I really enjoy.
the waterpark for kids is great, lot of things you can buy or rent on site for beach play. it is really big. the store in the hotel is nice. two restaurants for breakfast.
The staff was amazing!
The hotel is very well located, very clean and cosy.
I'll definitely book a room in this hotel the next time I'll go to Ishigaki.
