We were only there for one night for a stop-over on a longer trip. The town looks like it's on the verge of being a better than just a place to stop and sleep. Sunday night only had on local restaurant open to eat at, but it was a nice place. Old fashion looking movie theater and historic hotel.

Sorry, but the only reason we stop in Clayton is that it is too hard for us to go any further in a day. That being said, we always enjoy the stay at the Ekland Hotel. And, I may be weird but I love the grasslands surrounding Clayton and on into New Mexico.

Make time for a visit of the New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma border marker. It is about 2 miles off the highway going into Oklahoma off a white dirt farm road. Approximately 6 miles due east on Hwy 56 out of town.

We drive through Clayton on are way to Colorado as do many other states. Always looking for a good place to stay beyond Amarillo. Clayton picturesque but usual he just did overnight stay. The quality inn and the best western are far superior to the super eight

Very small quiet community that has historical building still standing..,, a few still open but many empty. Example the Drug store is still open which is that nostalgic five n dime. Hotel Eklund is amazing with a saloon, dining room with craftsman carpentry woodwork along with hotels staircases just gorgeous wood working. Not a lot of restaurants open and what is open food is not great but you will be fed.

As stated before! The upgrade to the rooms are nice.

As stated before! The upgrade to the rooms are nice. The man who checked me in was very nice. The bed was very comfortable. There was not much of a breakfast as I have had at other hotels. No fruit, eggs, bacon, waffles. The coffee was fantastic. The floor in the room had not vacuum or moped. The bathroom and everything else was very clean. I would stay again. The construction debris with nails we're thrown in the back of the hotel in the grass area where my pets needed to go potty. I picked some of it up and put it against the wall so myself or my pets would not step on carpet tack or nails from baseboards.

Clayton is a small town and there is not much there apart from this fabulous hotel. Old, authentic and beautiful with the friendliest staff one can imagine. The restaurant is really nice, too, with lots of locals coming in for a good dinner. Breakfast is so much better than what most chain hotels have to offer. Neaby attractions include Clayton Lake State Park and the Capulin volcano. The Eklund is the perfect stop, quite simply.

It was like to going back to the past. The Hotel is like 200 years old. Time travel to the old west. Some things are still original (like the handrail, telegram and phone). Do not expect all goodies you get in a regular hotel. It is the experience you get in an unique gem still well preserved. Well worth it.

The reservation and checkin process were seamless and the staff was friendly. The room was huge had a living room area with couch, desk, tv, refrigerator, and microwave. I also really liked that it was hotel style with doors on the inside. I believe the only one of the three hotels in the area.

The hotel was very charming and clean! However, it was a fairly noisy location and the breakfast was lackluster. I was also disappointed that the room didn’t have a hairdryer. Clinton is a small burg, so dining is limited. Neither the restaurant nor the saloon within the hotel were open.

We weren’t able to enjoy the breakfast because it only lasted until 8:30 am and we were so tired from the long drive the day before. We loved the history and the furnishings of the hotel. We really enjoyed our time spent there.

The hotel was run down and rough. The room was ok. Clean. Just cheap. Cheap sheets cheap towels. And doors not locked properly and felt really unsafe. Felt like way to costly for that place.

Great Value. It was my 4th hotel in a week, and it was as good as $200 rooms. Don't let the outside fool you. Was clean, bed was great and so was the breakfast.

Nicest hotel in a little town. Motel style, park outside. Not a "lodge". Parking was easy, checkin people were friendly.

Convenient. Receptionist did her best. Obviously short handed as she was doing hotel laundry and answering phone calls

The building looked cool. It's an old building and that's the point of the hotel. History. That's about it.
