We loved the cozy vibe of the bar and restaurant and hanging out by the fire.

This is a true B&B with a great personal touch. Everything was immaculate and cozy! And the breakfast was the best we’ve ever had!

Public bathroom needs to have better attention & be checked more often.
Some shop owners are friendlier than others & they make you feel unwelcome in their shops. Most of the shops are welcoming though.
Restaurants in the city itself are ok. Over priced & not top notch. However, there are wonderful restaurants right outside of the city that are wonderful & food is exceptional (The Lakeside Restaurant.

We had a very bad experience at Meritage Bistro. The owner and manager were extremely rude to one of our group who ordered crab cakes that turned out to be too spicy to eat. Worst treatment I have ever seen in a restaurant. Will never go there again!

Too crowded in July.
Too crowded in July. We had a fantastic dinner at Lakeside Restaurant, an excellent lunch at Mountain Fresh Grocery and a great breakfast at the BlackBear Breakfast & Lunch which is new in town. Their food and service is superb. Next visit we will come early in the Spring or in the Fall when it isn't quite as crowded, but being crowded is a good problem for Highlands to have. :)

Highlands is a very unique place; a mountainous rain forest. Beautiful lush trees, flowers, and foliage. The water falls are breathtaking as is the drive up to Highlands. The town has a feel of privilege and most things are quite expensive. Our meal experiences were very good but get reservations IF you can. Food is pricey. Make sure and drive around and see the spectacular homes in the area. Please note that Highlands has a rain shower every day. Carry an umbrella everywhere.

Over the fourth of July weekend, so it was very crowded.
Over the fourth of July weekend, so it was very crowded. We had to wait everywhere to get a meal. The visitor center was closed when it was supposed to be open, so we had trouble getting tourist information. The Smokehouse is great, but we also had a long wait for our food. The shops are high end. The historic village was interesting, and the flowers are gorgeous everywhere you look.
Delightful vintage cabin tucked in amongst a rhododendron and mountain laurel filled neighborhood with winding streets, babbling brooks and ponds; truly a sanctuary. The screened in front porch is the perfect place to relax with a storybook view of a small clearing with a creek. very convenient to the charming downtown of Highlands. Well equipped kitchen, large dining table on the porch. Lovely furnishings and comfortable beds and linens.
Wonderful renovation of an old school, rustic mountain motel. Rooms had everything we needed including refrigerator, fireplace, ceiling fan. Bathroom is spacious and shower is excellent. Nice lobby with wine and drinks available early evening and coffee in the morning. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Fire pit outside in the evenings is really nice as well. Convenient to downtown Highlands.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would definitely recommend this hotel. Only quirk is the blinds in the sitting room with the pull out sofa have large gaps letting in a lot of light from the walkway fixtures that are on all night. Hard for someone to sleep there due to that. Functional drapes would solve that problem.
The location is great. The cottage is decorated very nicely and looks very cute inside. The patio of the cottage was great, and we enjoyed nature while sitting out on it, and we enjoyed cooking out using the grill. We were not able to get the gas fire pit started, but we used the regular fire pit in the yard area.
The kitchen was lacking and not user friendly. The living area had comfortable seating. The location was good in that it was near Highlands. The cleaning crew arrived after our 4:00 check-in but then did a good job. It was awkward to hang around while they were cleaning and making beds.
The best part of our stay at the Skyline Lodge was the outstanding world-class on-site restaurant "Oak Steakhouse". Also liked that parking was free of charge, and that the room had a balcony, was fairly spacious, and some nice design features.
