By local (Jersey City and Manhattan) standards, Ramada by Wyndham is very good value. The room was big, spacious, clean and quiet, it is only 5 mins walk from the PATH and whilst the breakfast was basic, it is a cheap hotel so I didn't expect anything better. If you can spare the travel time to get across the Hudson, Jersey City is the way to go. Accomodation is much cheaper than Manhattan especially around xmas/new year, and much quieter. We liked that. Staff were friendly and very accomodating. A great little self serve "minimart" at the front desk. We could buy snacks and even laundry detergent. Having a free laundry facility was excellent.
