Unfortunately we were only at the hotel from 9:00pm-9:00am so we did not walk around the neighborhood. I loved the fact that they have 24 hour coffee and hot tea/chocolate by the reception area. What a treat to get a full snickers bar when we checked out!! I also love the closeness that it has to the Hearst Castle. It was only 5 minutes away!! Overall great place to stay!!

The rooms are old but are comfortable and clean and generally well cared for. The room refrigerator is generously sized and there were adequate outlets for our CPAPs. For those that don't need fancy and prefer not to pay top dollar for a place to sleep for a night, the Silver Surf motel fits the bill. This was actually our second stay at the hotel on trips up Hwy 1. It is conveniently located several miles south of Hearst Castle and the elephant seal nursery beach.

The pool is large and heated, the jacuzzi was a great bonus as well. We were happily surprised by the quality of the continental breakfast featuring excellent butter croissants and good orange juice. This motel acted as a nice hotel rather than a simple motel. The room was also very large and nicely decorated, with fun nostalgia-like appliances.

The architecture is lovely and Julia Morgan has drafts of Hearst castle adorning the wall. The pipes make noise, no air conditioning, bathrooms are dark. We love every nuance of this place. The location if perfect. We are near the castle and Cambria. The beaches below the hotel are very nice! We are local and love San Simeon ❤️. Staying at the hotel is like going back in time.
