A laid back place to go, especially popular with younger tourists. There are any number of excellent places to eat and unlike the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, you can park directly next to the different beaches and do not have to pay for parking or any entrance fee such as for a national park. If you drive a car from San Jose, you will encounter lots of truck traffic and possible waits for road repair on the way to Limon, but it is worth it. After Limon to Puerto Viejo, the traffic is light. If you don't have a car, there is very regular bus transportation which will drop you right where you need to go. You can also borrow or rent a bike to ride around. Where we stayed, just past Puerto Viejo at Playa Chicita there were very nice, clean light brown sand beaches and water instead of some that were more black sand. It was not crowded like the more popular beaches on the Pacific and had better sand. There was a market near our hotel run by a gentleman from Switzerland where we could buy food supplies including fresh baked breads. I would recommend this area to anyone and there are lots of places to stay at a reasonable price.
Growing up in Limon I must say it was very surprising to see Cahuita remain the same little town I always knew... the Cahuita National park is beautiful, it is being kept very clean, a great place to spend the day with family and friends. The road to Cahuita is in great shape and a beautiful ride, I am very impressed with what I saw and experience and I would recommend anyone traveling to the Atlantic Ocean in Costa Rica to visit Cahuita and specially the National Park. The Park entrance is still a donation and if you have visited any National Parks in Costa Rica in the last few years the entrance fees could be a deal breaker! Not here! just enjoy it.
This is a working port - very industrial. The visit was a re-visit from 40 years ago, and much has changed. We enjoyed the park and also visited Playa Bonita, which was lovely and the lunch we had was enjoyable. The public bus ride from San Jose to Limon was easy, inexpensive and comfortable.
Leave Puerto Limon and drive south passing Puerto Viejo and look for Playa Chiquita.
Not much in Puerto Limon; we stayed overnight so we could board a cruise ship the next morning. It was, however, a very nice overlay on the beach.
There isn’t anything to do in downtown Puerto Limon. If you go to La Playa Bonita, it has a nice beach and restaurant near by with really good. However, I would recommend going to Cahuita or Puerto Viejo to enjoy some really beautiful beaches and enjoy nature.
Puerto Limón
There was a problem with the Waze link in the e-mails I received. It led me to completely different property and I was unable to find the Casa Marina establishment. I had to have the taxi driver take me to a different hotel. When I found the number of the couple who rent out the house, I explained the situation and they refunded my fee immediately after our conversation. I will definitely try again the next time I need to go to Limón, Costa Rica. Thank you!
The location is incredible. It’s a few miles from crazy, busy Limon. It’s quiet, has a pool, snacks, restaurant, and you can step right onto the beach. The beach is gorgeous. There are two friendly, an well-behaved hotel dogs. One of them walked a few miles on the beach with us. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Air conditioning worked great! The property feels tucked away and private. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Older hotel, nice grounds, didn’t use pool as traveling through. Restaurant food and breakfast was good. Nice view of Caribbean from room 149. English TV, a first for us after three weeks in Costa Rica. Only booked Limon for the canal tour which isn’t available if criuze ships aren’t in. Didn’t get the tour as they cancelled last minute. Beware!! Good AC.
Lovely apartment with really good beds and amenities with great value for money in limon. Can’t find anywhere for this price in the location! Very lovely hosts who were very helpful when needed only issue was the google maps directions took us to the wrong place
Very nice apartment and room in Puerto Limon, squeaky clean and furnishings very comfortable. The communication with the hosts was great as well. Very good price value, and a good choice if one is staying a few days here.
Probably the best hotel in Limon. Next to the seafront with good views and opposite some good restaurants. Breakfast is good. Service prompt and polite.
We really enjoyed our romantic dinner our server was Holly and she was amazing, she was always checking in on us , and the food was excellent!!, and the breakfast was amazing
Stylish luxury completely immersed in nature. The restaurant and beachclub with second pool at the oceanfront are amazing and have delicious choices One out of 5 higher class hotels we stayed at during our 2 week trip and we all liked it best. The combination with a huge private beach area is perfect. We liked to see some agutis on the property. I got cake with candles, singing waiters and balloonflowers for my birthday! Good to know: you need to cross a street between hotel and restaurant/beachclub/ocean.
I liked the thoughtful touches in the rooms, a combination of chic bohemian and Caribbean styles. I woke up to the birds chirping every morning and the whole compound feels like a microclimate because of the plants and trees. Most importantly, Anabelle the host was the most amazing host and made my stay 100x better along with the other people helping her run the property. they also provided a detailed guide which made exploring Puerto Viejo super easy and recommended trustworthy tour guides and local tuktuk guys! I loved my stay and would 100% recommend this place to solo travelers, couples and families!
We had a very good time staying in the sloth cabins. Very nice people, exceptional breakfast and no need to mention the beach
Location was great. Property is beautiful. Pool and gym was amazing.
The property is amazing and very well looked after.
Excelent place, Best place according to price, great food and staff, this is a 10 place, great pool and Beach in front
The lodge is located on a beautiful property overlooking the Pacuare River. The owners Kirk and Joanna and all the staff were excellent. The facilities were very clean and well maintained. The rafting was superb with the best guide Bluche. Highly recommended by me.
Staff were so friendly and helpful, bungalow was so unique, clean and well kept. Obviously it was a bit noisy because it’s in the jungle, but to be expected, and such a unique experience. Food was really good, would definitely recommend.
the place is magic. love the peace of being so close to nature and only a walk away from the beach.
Great experience! Lovely place - jungle feeling, friendly staff, great food, good vibes. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Great location, really close by National park and not far from beach as well. Kitchen is well equipped. All around is really as a secret garden, even some not anymore really wild animal you can see every morning and evening.
This property is BEAUTIFUL! The location turned out to be just perfect for our family of 4. The pool and calm tide pools in front of the property were very enjoyable for our small children. The breakfast was delicious. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. We had some issues with the hot water going out and the staff was prompt to fix it. We saw sloths, monkeys, poison dart frogs, macaws, toucans and huge iguanas all on the property. Thanks so much for a really special trip.
everything! perfect location, staff were lovely especially Diego. They were very accommodating of us as we were travelling with small children and had issues with our flights. The pool was lovely, the apartment was lovely. Wow definitely visit again.
