Monschau, Germany
Positive section of review
Don't be scared by the age of the building (1654) as the interior was fully renovated with proper heating, great bathroom and spacious shower. Sasha and Beatrix keep the facilities spotless, with an honor system fridge available for guests (take what you want, write it down, and settle when you leave). The room was surprisingly comfortable. Monchau is a very small medieval town and for you to stay in the heart of it and get the real feeling of it, you have to compromise. That compromise was parking... We used a parking garage about 300 m - 5 min walk away, which was not an issue with our carry-on luggage. The overnight fee was 7 Euros if I recall (Parkhaus Seidenfabrik).

It's an old building with narrow stairs so that might be a challenge for those with large luggage (not our case). There is no breakfast available although some things can be arranged. It is recommended to use the town's places, and if you need to leave early Cafe Hirsch just across the creek - and recommended by Sasha, facing the main square, if the place to go as they open at 7am. Like in many hotels we visit, a night light in the bathroom was missing. Those are good to have in case the guests need for a bio-stop in the early hours of the morning when everything is still dark, and you wake up not really knowing where you are. Those lights would prevent the use of main lights throughout the night.

Location, location, location!!! If you are driving into Trier, look no further. With a parking lot onsite and being steps from the heart of the city center, this Ibis is a no brainer (let them know you are coming by car). The hotel is modern, the rooms are very cool, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast variety is great and plentiful, allowing you to fill up for the day and carry on with your visit to this interesting city. Note: our rate considers a hotel that fits a on the go traveler's budget, with no indulgences like those offered by top notch and expensive full-service hotels.

The location was excellent, close to the train station which was the main reason we chose this property. The staff, especially Anna at the front desk was exceptionally welcoming and willing to answer any and all our questions. The room was clean and anything we need such as towels etc were all conveniently located and available.

We did the breakfast there one morning. If we were real "breakfast people" it would be very good. For what we wanted it was a little on the expensive side.

This historical building, located in a lovely residential neighborhood, has a very special atmosphere. There are several great restaurants, an underground station and the Rhein walkway nearby.

the location. hotel was ok. The front desk staff was argumentative and not helpful at all
Negative section of review
If the front desk staff was helpful regarding our group. My travel agent tried to talk to them, we tried to talk to them as there was a problem with having too many rooms that were not booked under the travel agent or myself. It must have been an error, but the front desk was very unwilling to help. My travel agent tried to get with the manager and called from the United States 5 times to work out this situation, but no phone calls or correspondence back from the manager.

Couldn’t get the fan/ac thing to work in the room. Not the most comfortable in my opinion.
