Staying here was the perfect way to finish my 3 week trip in Japan. Usami is a quiet town on the beach and great for relaxing. This property is in a great location in Usami, just a few minutes walk from the train station and the beach. From here it’s also easy to day trip to other areas in Izu. I did an awesome day trip to Jogasaki Coast! The facilities were spacious and clean, and the hot spring, foot bath, and balcony were great additions to the property. Lastly the property owners were incredibly friendly and hospitable. They helped make my time in Usami memorable. If I come back to Izu I’ll definitely look to stay here again.

Usami might not be for everyone. It’s a small, local town. If you are looking for excitement you might want to check bigger towns.

Breakfast was served in our room. We took the Japanese version and it was delicious, plentiful and beautiful in presentation. I had read the reviews that said to put the trays outside the room if not getting your room cleaned. The room was large, well laid out, with a separate toilet room with sink and beautiful art painted on the walls. There were some very good restaurants nearby. A Yakatori restaurant that you need to reserve due to popularity, a Spanish restaurant and a cute little bakery style breakfast/lunch place.

Our only complaint was a bright motion sensor light near the bathroom that went on when using the bathroom at night! It was bright enough to wake up the other person in the room. A small night light in the bathroom would work much better!

Couch Potato Hostel

Walking from the train station to the hostel was beautiful. First you walk through a small town area, then through a temple area and then down a couple more small town street to the hostel. Upon check in you slip off your shoes and into some slippers. The check in process was seamless and the information provided and tour were handy. We would definitely book there again!

Laundry drying services end at 8pm, which made it hard for us to get our things cleaned because we were out exploring all day. That being said, we enjoyed the quiet evening atmosphere and ability to hang our clothes to dry overnight.

Loved waking up to the sight of Mt Fuji out of the living room with the matcha tea provided. Good feeling of how people in Japan lived 30 years ago and some probably still live in houses like these. Bus stop next to the premises. Nice walk on a nice day even as far as Kawaguchiko despite taking over 1.5h

Unfortunately, the house wasn't entirely cleaned. I walked into a spiderweb in the secondary toilet. Woke up next to a pretty big bug, which was t that pleasant. Price felt a bit too high for the remote location with a subpar cleanliness.

The view from our room was absolutely stunning and the onsen was lovely. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. We were visiting friends in Shingu and it was an easy bus ride from the JR station.

We enjoyed the room and breakfast. The room was traditional and very comfortable. We chose the Japanese option for breakfast and enjoyed it as well.

We reserved time in the bath but we were a few minutes late. They had already given away our spot, even though we paid for the time frame. That was disappointing.
