Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomBuilding works going on in the square while we were staying, so rather dusty. Bar/restaurant staff very slow. Lots of the food on the menu not available, so we gave up and went elsewhere. Be aware that most of the rooms have private bathrooms, but these are not ensuite.
Lovely old building filled with antique furniture. Good central location in Sao Filipe. Small swimming pool (if chilly). Pleasant outdoor seating area. The owner kindly upgraded us to a room with ensuite, as someone else had been put in the room we booked.

GermanyThe communication with the hotel before arrival did not work. They offered airport transfer. However, when I sent a message via booking.com with our arrival time and the request for a transfer, we got no answer. We would suggest to equip the rooms with a rack for wet towels.
I was thrilled by living in this old colonial house. The house has such charm! It is located in the best place of the town. What makes the house particularly likeable is that the owner is not some distant capitalist, but is very much present on the premises doing general repair work. Before booking, one should know that there are two rooms with sea view and balcony. They come with the disadvantage of having no adjacent bathroom. However, you have your own private bathroom - just some meters over the hall. Contrary to the description, we had WIFI in the room. There are other rooms with adjacent bathroom, however without balcony. Below the balcony is the hotel restaurant on the terrace. This is also frequented by locals. Friday night, there can be live music until very late. Depending on the number of guests, breakfast is served as buffet or - if there are only few guests - is brought directly to your table. In the latter case, there is not much selection. One should ask - e.g. for omelette.

United KingdomThe swimming pool needed to be better cared for.
Beautiful architecture and decoration. Nice link to the history of 100 years ago. Bar was nice. Staff were helpful. Very comfortable beds and spacious rooms. Nice to have the swimming pool and terrace to spend time on.

Portugalthe breakfast was ok, but on an island such as Fogo, they should have better fruit and different options from the rather touristic continental breakfast option.
Gorgeous room very well decorated. Location is very central, friendly staff and helpful. The swimming pool was a great extra since the ocean was too strong to get into the water.

FranceWould recommend upgrading the WiFi. It was very weak and I had to use my own data to access the network.
Very charming old colonial-style guesthouse, tastefully decorated, centrally located.

PortugalIt's not a cheap option. Considering the price some things should definitely be improved, for example the shower was very old (water was coming out from only a few holes), no shower curtain and low wi-fi signal in many areas. Also, the staff was not the most attentive or even easy to find.
Nicely decorated old colonial house with very pleasant common areas, including a swimming pool. Rooms are spatious and have air conditioning (trust me, you will need it!). The location is also great, right in the historical center of São Filipe.

FranceThe first day the room was not cleaned, we asked the reception about that and they just answered "tomorrow" without any explanation or excuse. Wifi was not working properly, had to ask 5 times for it before having an answer Shower did not have any pressure and was very low Coloring level of the pool is very high, to the point it made the hair of my friend turned green Some employee are very nice and helpful, others barely answer and do not feel they even want to help you to the point we stopped asking them anything in the end. AC was not working properly.
The hotel is quite nice and the facilities are good. The decorations are very nice and the hotel looks very good. The breakfast is awesome. The location is also very central
