Cozy stay in northeast Iceland 🫶🏽

I loved the bedding, the temperature settings in the apartment, and the full-size kitchen. One thing that stood out is that they have a washing machine. This is great for adventure travelers like myself.

The Nest is a quiet guesthouse in an Icelandic Arctic Village called Raufarhöfn. People should first understand this means the village is remote and in a pristine location. My room was equipped with a full-size kitchen, a shower, and two beds. It was perfect for me but is also great for families. The village itself is wonderful, boasting very beautiful landscapes. I teavelled here to visit the Arctic Henge, see the seals, and take photos.

The check-in process was confusing and a little frustrating in the beginning. We arrived just around sunset and the building was locked. There was no telecom or phone nearby for guests to reach the staff. There was a sign by the front door with a number for guests to call for assistance. But again, no phone or telecom nearby, so we had to use our cell phone to make an international call to let them know we needed to check in and the door was locked. It was windy and cold outside and just a frustrating experience because of the unknown of not knowing if anyone was going to answer the call and the unknown of whether it was even open or not since the building was locked. I was a little worried about having to look for another place on short notice with an overtired baby. Thankfully someone answered the phone, interestingly asked if I had meant to check in at a different place...she said The Nest was not expecting any guest that night. After firmly saying we made a reservation with The Nest, someone came to the building about 15 minutes later. The person assisted us with check in said she was a temp staff and emphasized she wasn't aware of any guest booked for that night. Somehow they just didn't get our reservation. Thankfully we had unlimited data on phones so I could show proof of reservation and she made a few phone calls then gave us a room. After check-in was completed, everything was fine.

We went in mid-October. We got a bigger room than what was booked for. We were on the first floor with the share bathroom almost right next to our room. There was no other guest staying on the first floor so we pretty much had the whole first floor of the building to ourselves. The kitchen was on the second floor and was equipped with basic cookware and utensils. We were able to cook dinner with what the kitchen had. The living room & dining area were cozy and provided good spaces for eating and lounging. The freezer in the fridge was full (whole fish inside the drawers) so I couldn't use them for our ice packs for keeping my baby's milk fresh. However, it was cold outside so I just left the ice packs inside the car overnight and that worked well. The building was very warm even though it was freezing cold outside (yellow warning that day).

Lack of room in the freezer due to someone leaving a fish in the freezer, and one drawer was frozen shut.

Location was right along the road, easy to find. Large common areas for cooking and lounging. Very quiet during our stay. Laundry available.

Very clean. Nice kitchen. That provided coffee which was much appreciated. Our room was very comfortable and the shared bath clean

It was the most expensive hotel that we stayed at during our stay in Iceland but not the most comfortable and not the best-equipped.

There is parking in front of the hotel and a reasonably well-equipped kitchen.

No real complaints. The television wasn't working but we didn't feel the need to use it.

The studio apartment was perfect for our family of five. Our youngest slept with us and our older kids took the single bed and the couch. The private bathroom and kitchen were well equipped. There was a common area with a beautiful view toward the Arctic Henge. Dora was a wonderful host - friendly and helpful!

Perhaps our neighbor watched a bit to loud TV but aside from that everything was ok. No restaurant or bakery are nearby but if you cook yourself it is fine.

All you need is there and clean. Nice welcome at reception. Bathroom including washing machine. Kitchen with all necessities. Free tea. Nice shared living room. Free Parking in front of the building. We stayed only for one night and the room and facilities were ok. Raufarhöfn is a bit of a lost place but the nature around it is beautiful. Perfect place to leave the day to day hectic behind.

We came during the off-season, so there wasn't a whole lot to do in town. They were also in the midst of replacing the laundry appliances, so we weren't able to do laundry as planned.

The check-in staff was very kind and hospitable. She offered to call and make us a reservation at the local restaurant and was very welcoming.

At least one more washroom for the number of rooms that need to share them. Rearrange the laundry facilities outside of the washrooms. Offer a breakfast as there are not many restaurants in the area.

The town itself is very quirky and may not be for everyone. The lady at the reception is an absolute super star.
