Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

BelgiumI booked a double room with my partner but we were given a twin room. Upon inquiring at reception, we were told that the hotel does not have any double rooms but only twin rooms. I find that rather difficult to believe. Would've liked to receive the room I actually booked.
The location is great and the view onto the Beestenmarkt was lovely.

CanadaDecor is shabby, like cast-offs from a yard sale. Given the historic nature of the building, I expected something more tasteful. I REALLY disliked being told check-out was 10 a.m. We planned to leave on a noon train, and so we had to walk around for more than an hour with our backpacks fully loaded. Also, didn't expect to have to let ourselves in and out even during daytime hours.
Location five minutes walk from train station, and right on the Leiden main square. Easy train access to Amsterdam and other cities. Happy to have minibar but it was set so cold it froze our strawberries. We had four windows, overlooking the square and side street. Unfortunately, they were either covered with sticky "frost" paper or ugly heavy curtains that couldn't easily be opened.

United KingdomFloor needed vacuuming.
Really central which is the plus point for the Mayflower. On paper it seemed expensive for a 2-star hotel but having now been to Leiden I realise that everything is a little expensive there - at least compared to UK. Fairly basic accommodation, but functional. Clean linen and bathroom clean though not the prettiest I've seen. Bed comfortable and curtains effective. Lots of fast-food places, eateries and restaurants nearby including a McD's two doors down. Durk supermarket 6/7 mins walk away with great instore bakery for 40c croissants (ignore the bakery right in front of the entrance).

IndonesiaThere is no elevator. It’s a bit hard if you bring big luggage with family member.
The location is superb. Very near to the Leiden Central station and to the main attraction in the city centre.

United KingdomSome fixtures and fittings a bit tired and scruffy.
Spacious room with excellent views onto the marketplace and an opening window. Comfortable beds. Bath. kettle, coffee maker and full size fridge. Helpful staff. Useful lounge downstairs. Able to park bikes in front of the hotel. Fantastic location: very close to the station and tourist information. A large choice of restaurants very close by. Easy access to the various tourist attractions. The name of the hotel references the city's links with the Pilgrim Fathers.

United States of AmericaThe winding, small and numerous! steps for me were very difficult, dangerous, in fact. There are times when there’s no one to let you in. You must swipe your key after pushing a separate button. It wasn’t a problem for me because I asked for a demonstration but I met a woman “stuck” outside who couldn’t figure out the way to get in. No breakfast food on site but reception person said breakfast starts in May.
The location is excellent and the view out the window onto the courtyard square was wonderful. Close to food and canal boat tours. I appreciated all the extra cozy lights. And especially appreciated the hot water pot and tea!

SingaporeThe wifi cannot reach my room. I struggled to communicate because I need to get out of my room just to send and receive my messages. it was a real inconvenience especially during winter when you need to put on warm clothing and go out instead of just chilling in the room on the bed.
location was excellent. staff is hospitable and friendly. the room was spacious and I was allocated 3 beds. there is a fridge, a kettle and a tv, which meant I got to store food, make myself coffees and was entertained the whole time.

United States of AmericaThe lack of amenities such as an elevator, shampoo/conditioner, hairdryer, or iron/ironing board, as well as the worn-out furniture, may have detracted from the overall comfort and convenience.
The hotel is in a old building and there was no elevator to access my room. I have to climb a flat of stairs and carried my luggage without any assistance. No shampoo/conditioner or hairdryer or iron/ iron board in the room so bring your own. The bed was comfortable even though the furniture are worn out and the room very clean. Additionally, the absence of concierge services or recommendations on local activities and attractions could be disappointing for tourists seeking guidance during their stay. In my case I just needed a clean and comfortable room when visiting family there but as a tourist you may want more amenities.

BelgiumAfter reading the online reviews, I was a bit afraid of the bathroom condition but once I arrived I thought everything was okay. A bit old but not dirty. The curtain at the bathroom window however looked rather improvised. But overall not too bad.
It's a historical building in the middle of the town overlooking one of the many cute squares. The room was comfortable but a little old-fashioned (which I think adds to the ambiance). Very good value for money.

GermanyJust two minor things. The lightning of the room was a bit awkward, with 4 different light points that had to be turned on one at a time. And even then the room was never really bright. Also I would have liked to have the chance to not exchange my towels every single day. Some hotels give the guest the chance to decide when they want to exchange their towels, and it seems like a good thing to do, I don't know.
The room was very spacious and was well equipped. Using the wi-fi was a very smooth process overall. I didn't use it but having a coffee machine with plenty of coffee seemed to me an awesome detail. The location is great.
