Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThe price is on the upper end of hotels in the area as nice as it is that makes the choice to stay there more difficulr compared to other facilities.

United States of AmericaThe rooms are old. There was a constant drip in the bathtub which I mentioned to the staff and the shower floor was slippery.
Location was perfect. It was a nice hotel. An older property but nice. The rooms are dated.the breakfast in our room, however, was perfection! I had avacado toast on our first morning- best ever! It was served with a pastry that I don’t even know how to describe. So good! The chia pudding the next day was again amazing! The hotel itself is not what I would call luxury but the food definitely is.

United States of AmericaNot much I didn’t like. I would prefer an electric kettle to make tea rather than the (even first class) espresso machine.
From the picture we see of the facade I was expecting a little rundown building, but not at all! It is beyond charming!! And yet very well maintained for a historic building. Everything looks fresh and glamorous inside. The rooms are lovely, cozy, and clean! The bathrooms are first class. Our family was staying in two rooms. We were greeted by a very professional and kind staff. Katya checked us in and offered us a lovely welcome drink. In-room breakfasts were fabulous! Those health shots! Staying in l’Auberge and the Aubergine restaurant experience was the perfect birthday treat!

United States of AmericaThe staff assistance at the front desk was spotty on what I would call "extras" - help with dinner reservations upon arrival and follow up by the Concierge prior to arrival to secure reservations each night. For the former, it was a matter of the person not knowing how the restaurant they recommended did their dinner service or whether they even had bar /place to wait for a table. Not only were they wrong, but they did not bother calling ahead for us to see if there was availability. We got to the restaurant prepared to wait, but the restaurant had no tables available, no hope for a table, and no ability to wait in the establishment. When I called back to the front desk asking for help to find a place likely to have a table I had to become insistent that they help call around, not just give us a name they think would have a table. This type of experience also bleeds into the exchange with the Concierge before arriving. We got 1 great reservation set up (La Balena!) but struggled the other night. I did delay in responding and asking if there were times/dates that matched our desires, but when I did respond prior to arrival I never heard from the Concierge, even during our stay. Just odd. I am also beginning to think that Concierge in the US is not the same as in Europe so my expectations could be completely off. I have had some absolutely fabulous experiences and help from Concierge services in Europe.
L'Auberge Carmel is a very nice hotel. The bathroom has the most marvelous heated tile floor in front of the sink. With Carmel having fairly consistent 50-60's weather, that heated floor was wonderful when barefoot. The location was fantastic as well. We tried all 3 of the breakfast offerings -- healthy Chia seed pudding & juice shot, Avocado toast, and petit dejuner. All were very good. I liked the healthy breakfast the best and the Avocado toast the least.

United States of AmericaWe loved everything about our stay, although I might be concerned about staying in the summer because the hotel does not have air conditioning.
The property is quaint—old world charm and beautiful furnishings. The location is fantastic, and we spent our days walking through Carmel and exploring the many shops and restaurants. Room service breakfast was a treat every morning.
