Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaI would have preferred an inn - the Ellery was a gussied up motel.
I didn't eat it because all the Ellery offered was cereal.

United States of AmericaThere was no carpeting in my room, and I'm guessing that was true for the room above me. I could hear all the comings and goings of the guests upstairs from me. I was also in the unit next to the staircase and could hear folks using the stairs.
The location was great and the room was very clean. The bed was so comfortable. Breakfast had great options and there were cookies out when I checked in. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of free parking.

United States of AmericaIf you're light sensitive, like me, don't forget your eye mask. You're going to need it. The blinds just do not keep any light out. There's a constant nightlight in the bathroom light switch. There's a green glowing light over the heating/cooling unit. The smoke alarm has a green flashing light. And, the bright hallway light beams in on the side and underneath the room door where there is considerable clearance. It's also not soundproof, but fortunately, whenever we've stayed here, we've found the guests to be considerate of each other.
This very pleasant 2-star hotel is conveniently located on a quieter side of Northampton and is our favorite place to stay when in the area. The rooms are very spacious and clean with a crisp, unfussy vibe. The bed and bedding are comfortable and the heating/cooling was easy to use and efficient. The quality breakfast was perfect and the breakfast room was calm and spacious. Parking is super convenient, right at the building.

United States of AmericaWe were informed that cleaning would occur after three days, but it never did. We left the room hoping to come back that day to see a difference, but there was none. I think if we had called and asked specifically, it would have happened, but it was a point of confusion for us.
We loved the ground floor room and that we could park right next to our room. We were there for work and had to load and unload many items from the car. The room was spacious and the neighborhood was quiet even though it is close to downtown Northampton. It is convenient to King Street and Route 9 both a plus. The breakfast bar was wonderful with many healthy options. You are left peaceful for breakfast in a quiet and attractive space. Sometimes a few extras ran out that were advertised as being available on a 24 hour basis. The beds were soft for my taste, but the bedding was lovely and cozy. The room was slightly dusty under the beds and we both had allergic reactions, maybe to the air/heating system stirring up the dust?. That was really the only negative. We loved that you could open the windows! The staff is helpful both upon arriving and throughout our stay. (5 days) Two days after getting home I realized that I had forgotten some small but precious items in a drawer. I called the front desk and they knew instantly what I had left and had it in hand to describe it to me. I know it will be waiting for me upon my return. All in all a wonderful place to stay if you need quiet and peace and access to the wonderful area it is in.

United States of AmericaWished they had a throw rug for the dog. Considering you pay an extra cleaning fee of $35 for a pet.
They were very nice overall and helpful. I was really happy that I was able to bring my dog, and they do have a pretty decent area in the back of the hotel for a walk. It's also a nice safe neighborhood for walks. I wish they had a small rug in the room; the floors are all bare. I understand that is easier to clean, but less comfortable for a dog. Glad I had brought a pet bed along. Room very clean though and staff nice. Main room of motel has a nice fireplace (not lit on first day which was disappointing) that was lit for breakfast (which was not extensive but really well done).

United States of AmericaLots of little lights in the room that blink. Between the control for the air conditioner/heater to the smoke detector. Just would be nice if it didn't happen but this seems to be common in hotel rooms these days.

United States of AmericaThe website didn't really give an idea of the layout of the place. But I did learn from reading other reviews. This is really a motel set up, behind the large brick historic building. The photos and description should really reflect that better. The staff also didn't tell us that patrons are welcome to make a fire in the fireplace (the reception and sitting area are unstaffed after 8 pm). Another patron told us about this and we did end up having a nice fire before we went to bed. There are no signs about this either, so I would imagine most people would not realize this is an option. The floors in the room were quite cold (no carpeting - which is fine), so I would bring fuzzy socks or slippers if there in the colder months.
I didn't even realize there would be breakfast, so this was a pleasant surprise! It was self-serve, and more than just a continental breakfast that you see at most places. Example: I made myself a bowl of Greek yogurt with all kinds of toppings: fresh fruit, granola, flax seeds, dried cranberries. There were nice touches like hard boiled eggs, mashed avocado to make avo toast, and lots of condiments. The coffee was also really good, which is unusual in my experience. The breakfast area was quite nice too, and there is a large fireplace (although it was not going the morning we were there). The staff were very friendly, everything was super clean, and the rooms are a good size, well appointed, and have nice beds.

United States of AmericaNeed fan in bathroom and would have loved a fireplace roaring in the mornings and evenings when we arrived back. and at breakfast time. Coffee was very weak both days. Radio not a nice soundtrack commercial free to create a vibe. I would highly suggest that and possibly a library for guests. Better chocolate chip cookies of this food snob.
Nice bed and good size room for the price. That's very important for us. Plenty of places to hang clothes coats etc.. I liked having a bench in the room.
