It needs some updates: windows were very old and couldn t close them completely. The sink has old stains. Bathroom was kinda small.

Very charming! This place has characters. Very peaceful!

Beautiful historic small inn in an excellent location for touring Humboldt redwoods park.

    1. Food and service at dinner were mediocre (overbaked salmon, overbaked potatoes, generic cheesecake ), for the price charged (though the dining room venue was very nice). Waitress did not seem to be a happy person, and did not apologize for two mistakes she made (but my guess is any staff at all is very hard to come by) 2. If you sit outside (on the terraces or the lawn near the river), there is quite a bit of road nice from Highway 101 (but at night I heard nothing and nothing interfered with sleep) 3. The room had an "old room" funny smell (but fortunately the window opened so I could repeatedly air it out).

The inn is just a half hour from Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Everything was run efficiently from start to finish and was very clean, and nothing was broken. The heating and cooling system worked well. My 210 foot "deluxe queen" (room 210) had everything I needed or wanted (except a mini-fridge, which would have made it perfect): bathtub that didn't leak, coffee maker, view of the trees, comfortable bed, adequate storage for toiletires. There was also a luggage rack I could use to help get stuff to my room via the elevator. The inn is also right next to part of Benbow Recreation Area, so after settling in it is easy to do a little stroll to the park or river (where there are picnic tables) before or after dinner or in the morning on a fine day.

There is an additional fire insurance fee (20USD), which was not mentioned during booking. It is very unusual to charge such an insurance fee, at least it should be mentioned during the booking process.

Historic hotel with beautiful and quiet rooms. Restaurant serves excellent food.

There was an additional 20 dollar "fire safety" daily fee added to the bill that I don't understand 😐. The complementary tea is only available for 1 hr from 3 to 4. Would be nice to have it be a longer span.

Beautiful location. The staff were accomodating. The room with bunk beds was perfect. The restaurant food was delicious but very pricey.

There was water seeping into our room through an outside door. Maintenance came to look, understandably couldn't do anything at that moment. Unfortunately one of the rain gutters wasn't draining well and we heard clattering of water all night (when I commented on this to the main desk, they commented "oh, sounds like Chinese water torture." and left it at that. Very disappointing reaction to our not sleeping well -- we understand that the weather is beyond the hotel's control, but response was not what I would expect from a hotel that likes to play off old-time grandeur.)

The location and building broadly are quite gorgeous. It was raining so we couldn't enjoy the area as much as I can imagine one would if it wasn't.

It was a little over priced for what was provided. I understand it's a historic inn, but I feel there is some necessary upkeep that has been overlooked.

Beautiful surroundings and location, set right next to a river. The beds are comfortable, a little old but cozy enough. There is cream sherry in the room which is a lovely touch. My room had a bathtub which was amazing. I enjoyed the dinner served at the hotel restaurant. Definitely worth a visit.

Nothing. It was a great place to stay.

I love the old charm and stateliness of the Inn. We missed tea time and didn't take advantage of the sherry in our room. However we did eat at the restaurant and it was very good. The fireplaces in the common area are great too. The room was lovely, a little worn but fine. The bathroom had ants but not a big issue. The bed was comfortable we enjoyed our stay overall. It was pouring rain when we got there and when we left. The Inn was a great reprieve from the weather. I accidentally took our room keys with me and mailed them back. They were very kind about that.

Vegan option should be available on menu. I had to call 2x ahead asking for an option. The chef obliged and it was delicious, but it’s 2024: all good places have a vegan main option on menus

Staff "friendliness" level was inconsistent. Wait staff were great. The pool, which is not all that big, is shared with the neighboring KOA property so it's not intimate or exclusive.

Loved the scones and tea in the afternoon. The outside patio and lawn are very nice. Dinner outside was perfect. The room was fun, the vibe was really nice. We really enjoyed our stay!

I think the only negative was that I did have to kill a few spiders in the corners of the ceiling when first getting there, but I understand that's probably easy to miss when cleaning rooms

The Inn itself and the surrounding area are beautiful and well maintained. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is an extremely relaxing, comfortable, and memorable place to stay.

I don’t understand why there have to be two flashing green lights on the smoke detector above the bed. The green light on the thermostat was also quite bright at night. The thermostat is controlled by the front desk and we realized shortly before bed that it was 81 degrees in the room! They adjusted it, but then the AC ran for awhile.

It was nice to spend time at this property during a rare rainy day in September. We thought of exploring the area a bit after we arrived but the rain put us off, and once my husband saw the cheery fire in the lounge that was it, we spent the afternoon there. My husband enjoyed playing the piano, until they turned on the background music; we played games, and there was tea and scones! The restaurant was fine, but a bit pricey for the level of food. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were appreciated. No refrigerator but staff were good to put some things in their cooler for us.

Did not realize it was haunted. I booked it online and when I arrived and stepped into the hotel I knew it was haunted. Tried to refrain from googling anything till after I left. Definitely felt a strong sense of being watched, especially where the hallway closet was in my room. My bathroom door also kept closing on its own. It’s not necessarily that “didn’t like it”, however I was traveling alone with my dog so it did spook me a bit.

Restaurant was great! Room was clean, staff was friendly, the whole hotel was very unique!
