To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The location was perfect! We felt safer there than some other hotels in the area. We did not smell weed like we have in other hotels. It was comfortable and met all of our needs for this trip.

United States of AmericaThe bed and pillows were horrible and rooms need a complete renovation. No bedbug covers or mattress protectors on the mattress or box spring. Even the picture on the wall had water damage from a previous water leak of some type. The elevator was worn out. The lights didn’t work on the inside and it sounded like it was about to break down any minute.
The breakfast was the best part of the stay but it wasn’t really anything to brag about.

far from the downtown area but not a bad location at all. Next to some restaurants. Outside was clean with lots of parking. The room was clean, the bathroom and linens were very clean. Staff was so kind and helpful.
