PT Barnum has been attributed with “Always leave them wanting more.” At the Black Lantern Inn, Chris and Jayne did just that in the most marvelous way possible. Their familiarity with the area yielded terrific suggestions and left us wanting to spend more time in Roanoke. Their varied and colorful breakfasts (clearly the results of Jayne’s CIA training) made us wish we had booked more than two nights (and breakfasts) on the lovely 2nd floor porch. And their seemingly effortless and coordinated touch points with us made us want to spend more time getting to know them better. Suggestion: splurge and book the Skyline Room Retreat - a real oasis. You won’t regret it.

There was absolutely nothing.

Absolutely loved our time here. Our hosts Chris and Janet were welcoming and couldn't do enough to ensure we had a comfortable and pleasant stay. Our room was perfect and breakfast was absolutely the most filling, delicious and healthy breakfast we've had at a B&B ever. Everything on the plate was farm to table and the variety and combination of flavors and foods were mouthwatering and visually appealing. We will definitely stay here again if we're in Roanoke.

Everything. The location and outside space was great, room was cozy as advertised, breakfasts were incredible, shared kitchen space was super convenient. The hosts were amazing and had great recommendations for restaurants and things to do.

Chris and Jayne were excellent! We ran a little late due to traffic and kept them up to date. They were very welcoming when we arrived. The room we stayed in was wonderful. Breakfast was amazing! Each morning it was set up for us and a note card telling what our breakfast included. Everything was homemade (delicious). When we left, Chris gave us an alternate route for our next destination that was for more scenic and less traffic. We would definitely recommend and stay here again!!

We loved everything! The house is beautiful. The place was spotless and well decorated. The breakfast was phenomenal and food network worthy. However, the best part was the incredible above and beyond service we received. We were rushing checking in to make it to a concert. Our hosts checked us in quickly, made scones for us to eat on the way to the venue, and gave us recommendations for late night restaurants after the concert. We were so well taken care of! We will definitely return!

Absolutely nothing! They exceed our expectations on every count.

The breakfast prepared by our hostess Jayne was exceptional. Our server, host Chris (Jayne’s husband) did an excellent job (right on time) of serving us and explaining what Jayne had prepared and where everything was sourced. It was evident that items were responsibly sourced and tastefully prepared and served! Jayne and Chris were superb hosts. Everything was “right on”! It is evident they love having a B & B and offering an above average experience to their guests. On almost every level they exceeded our expectations. They were also very knowledgable about things to do in the Roanoke area; what to see, where to eat, sites to visit, etc. Also it was a great value for services/accommodations/breakfast received! We will definitely return.

Spacious room on the top floor with a comfortable king size bed, very clean. An additional room (private for our unit) one level below with a Kurig coffee machine, where we had individually served breakfast. Access to a shared kitchen (only for the guests of 3 rooms). High end linens and towels. Very friendly owners. Highly recommended

I can't think of anything. The owners took great care of us and were very helpful in telling us places to go visit.

Everything about the place was fantastic. The pumpkin pancakes were my favorite, but the "Presidential" sandwich was exceptional. We love the little breakfast nook outside; I could get used to eating there every day! Room was cozy and warm; just a great stay.

Probably the best B&B I have stayed in. Spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and the breakfast with personalised menu was delicious. Ideal for downtown Roanoke, just a short drive. I would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to anyone.

Chris and Jayne are amazing hosts! They were so kind and made our first honeymoon night awesome by upgrading our room and hooking us up with tickets to hear music at the "Dog Bowl" behind Black Dog Salvage, a must go place to check out. We wish we could've stayed more. Jayne made an amazing, healthy breakfast. We loved eating breakfast on the balcony. It was peaceful because we got a night where it was just us. We got to meet their little dog, Jack, and he is so cute!
