    Basic hotel, but great location.

Even though it was summer the room was very cold, although the staff brought me a heater when I asked. The walls are very thin - I could hear my neighbours easily and was woken up through the night because of that. My room was quite dark although I think if you choose a park view option you have more natural light in the room.

The gym was great, well stocked with free and machine weights, cardio equipment and mats. The staff were responsive and polite, check in and check out process was quick and easy. Room was very spacious, and the hotel was located across the road from Millennium Park. Very easy and pleasant walk up into the city.

Older hotel with a few inconveniences.
    • Business trip
    • Solo traveler
    • King Suite with Lake View
    • Stayed 4 nights

It is an older hotel. They only have the AC or heat on at one time. There is no thermostat in the room and when I finally called, cold, at night, they told me no heat available but I turned off the AC and it warmed up after a bit. It was difficult to get the shampoo etc. out of the wall containers. The biggest challenge was with the toilet- it flushed ok, but the mechanism did not work properly. First it came detached. I asked the maintenance person to fix it but he reattached it and it did not flush well so I had to pull it up manually. I didn't need a plunger but he brought one up and it was old and when I tested it it turned completely inside out so it was useless. Despite this, I did enjoy the hotel but some people might be very disturbed by these small inconveniences.

I had a suite with a lake view. It was gorgeous. The room /suite was clean and comfortable and I really enjoyed it. I will probably stay there again. It was close to the Art Institute which I visit all the time in Chicago and across from the park. The staff was very friendly and helpful and helped me get into the room early.

Decor is not only dated but actually quite in need of a complete renovation. The building is really showing its age. I had to run the water for about 10 minutes to get any hot water, quite a waste of water.

Pathetic shower. The photos of our room that was the confirmed booking showed a small table & chairs. That wasn't the room we got.

The location was great. Grant Park is just across the road. Can walk to the CBD & tourist areas. Close to Hop on hop off stop. The hotel is very grand, of yesteryear. Can imagine it would have been quite something when it was first built. The housekeeping staff were lovely.

Pillows, blankets, the shower, no body lotion

I had to book this hotel because it was the most affordable place (still at $300 per night!) l could book 11 months in advance of my son's college graduation. The negative reviews made me have low expectations so I was pleasantly surprised with our experience. The hotel is old but still retains some of its Art Deco charm. Our lake view room (at a small additional cost) was huge, with two bay windows, updated non-carpeted flooring, crown molding and a non-working fireplace. Yes, the pillows and blankets were a joke, the bathroom small, the shower weak, but the room itself, the terrific view, the superb location and the overall cleanliness made up for it.

Ac did not work the best so it was hot in the room. Not enough supplies for a suite so we had to ask multiple times for towels and toilet paper. Keys kept locking us out so we had to go to front desk multiple times. After 5 hours of being checked in we had to go down to front desk because of an error on the hotels side, not even sure what the issue was.

    Historical Hotel in Chicago
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple
    • King Room
    • Stayed 1 night

Our room was very small and faced other buildings and rooftops. Not attractive. It served it's purpose but was not what I was expecting for the price. My sister had a room that was facing the lake and the fountain and three times the size of ours. She booked two days before through the hotel. I booked 9 months in advance through Booking.com

The Hotel is beautiful inside and historical. It is in the Loop and has many business surrounding it for meals and sightseeing. Has a beautiful fountain in front of Lake Michigan.

Not being able to pay with maestro bankcards instead of visa. Then, for such a huge place, build a swimmingpool somewhere, and a sauna would also be great 😁 the menu in the restaurant could use an upgrade in choices, for example more salads, more veggie, less meat or chicken oriented.

After I upgraded to the 14th floor, my view over the lake is wonderfull. Its full moon tonight: even better.

Our shower leaked so bad that it would run all the way out until the hallway. When we told the staff about it, they were very nonchalant and didn’t care until I got a manager to step in and help us though we only stayed there for one night there wasn’t anything they could do about it every time we had to shower we had to take 10 or 20 towels and put them all over the floor while we took quick five minute shower so that the water wouldn’t leak so bad.

Great location. Easy to check in and check out. Lots of things around to do.

The air con is permanently turned on and you can't turn off or amend the settings; there are none! Accordingly, we were left being blasted with cold air the entire stay and meant the room was too cold. Our room had a locked interlinking door between our room and the next which meant we could hear everything next door and vice versa. This was annoying and not something I'd expect for a hotel charging what they do. There is no parking at the hotel and no discount offered on nearby carparks. The two behind the hotel charge either $40 or $62 for 24 hours, which is ridiculous.

The location is perfect for the sights. As mentioned by others, the hotel is old but our room had certainly been recently renovated with new decor.

The doorknob on the bathroom fell off and when the water was first turned on it ran orange. We couldn't figure out how to turn the air conditioner down so we were very cold. The stairwells are in need of painting.

The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean. The lobby exquisite. The staff very cordial. We met one of the security guards, Steve. He was such a delight! He understands the meaning of customer service!
