There were only two downsides we found. The check in time of 3-5pm is limiting and inconvenient if you are out and about wanting to take advantage of every daylight hour. We arrived in the area too early to check in. We finished a long hike at 6:15 so I called to let Joan know we were on our way. She was gracious and accepted my apology. It rained almost the entire time we were there from 6:30 pm to 9:15 am the next day. We loved the rain, but we noticed a frequent clangy gurgly noise coming from the outside walls, presumably a part of the rain catchment system on the roof and downspouts. It wasn't really a problem, just mentioning it in case you are expecting peaceful silence the entire time. Earplugs kept the sound out.

Our private entrance room to the left of her front door was fabulous! We loved the wood paneling, the "fireplace" type heater, the lounge chairs with afghans to snuggle in (and I did!), the cedar closet, Joan was so sweet and made us feel welcome. We expected breakfast, but, wow, what a treat to find a beautifully decorated dining table complete with china and linens! We dined on fresh fruit ( a lot of it!), fresh coffee, hot waffles, and scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious and plentiful. We loved chatting with the other guests while enjoying Joan's "Red Rock Beatles" story! Thanks for sharing Joan!

Very old home, so it was dark and dusty. Low water flow in the shower.

Grounds were full of flowers and beautiful. Breakfast was amazing. Hosts were knowledgeable and extremely helpful about the area.

Bedrooms were comfy but too filled with various things.

Breakfast was good. We thought that the pancakes we were served, which were very good, were all we were going to get. Eggs did follow, but by then we were already full. Location was very good. Staff were very friendly also.

The location is very convenient for visiting the Volcano National park. It is minutes away by driving. Joan had every detail written in notes so we had no problem with anything. Cleanliness was good. Did not spot any bug in the room.

Very dark driving there at night, Kept tripping on loose rugs on the floor. Bathroom vanity had glass knickknacks, reducing room for personal items. Afraid of breaking them.

Grounds were beautiful and very close to Volcano National Park. Host was very gracious and prepared a lovely breakfast for each morning we were there. We had easy access to touring the opposite side of the island and it was wonderful to not have to traverse back and forth across the island to visit the areas we wanted to see.

The house is pretty old. The area is wet and there is no beach access. The color of the beddings looks old, but I am not sure if they are actually old. There is no place to go nearby if you arrive early. I only walked around the neighborhood in the morning the next day.

The neighborhood is quiet; the people in the neighborhood are really nice. It is very close to the volcano national park. The breakfast is nice and smells so good. The owner is an old lady and the hotel is managed by her daughter-in-law. They are both very nice people. (Most of the photos are for the neighborhood, not the hotel itself)

An exceptionally delightful accommodation experience. The room was very cozy and clean, far better than it appeared in the pictures. Since we had to check out at 5 am the next morning, the host kindly packed toast for our breakfast. The location is about a 6-7 minute drive from the volcanic park. All in all, everything exceeded my expectations!!!

The decor was dated. There was a musty smell that could just be a factor of the location in the rainforest.

The suite was large and private. All of the amenities were provided. The staff was friendly and kind. The breakfast was fresh, hearty and delicious.
