Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaSome amenities were non-working. Had to ask the staff to turn temperature down in gym from 83 degrees to something appropriate in the 70s. Blind in bedroom was nonworking, had to ask staff to repair. Privacy blind in living room broke as well and had to be repaired. Complimentary housekeeping does not clean your room. Rather just a refresh with new towels and bed making. No new sheets or cleaning of restrooms or kitchen or floors. Last day of our stay the staff forgot to tell housekeeping to clean our room. Also we got locked out of our room in our last day because the system checked us out. Also the jacuzzi was not working on multiple occasions. The spa temperature was working intermittently according to staff. Also the onsite restaurant didn't cook our venison at the correct temp and gnocchi was raw and the dish had to be sent back. Family was already done eating by the time the dish was ready and we asked staff to comp the dish and we were given a couple of drinks for free to make up for it. That was helpful but we didn't want to patron the restaurant again. Underneath the couch bed, there were old gummy candies from a previous resident. Also the indoor bathtub jets were filthy from old mold. Just some disappointing experiences, but hopefully they can be addressed. We hope to stay at the property again.
Overall customer service was good. Quality and value of stay was good as well.

United KingdomMy wife and I stayed at Desolation hotel for 2 weeks. From the warm welcome on arrival to the wonderful facilities this boutique hotel is perfect. It is conveniently situated a 5 or so minute walk from the main ski gondola at Heavenly and a very short walking distance to the village and lake. There is lots of parking for guests and we used it as a base to ski Kirkwood, Northstar and Palisades. After a day skiing the pool, hot tub fire pits and private sauna were wonderful. Our room had a very boutique high end 5 star feel and facilities like the gym are nicely equipped with Peleton bikes. The in house restaurant Maggies is the best restaurant we visited in 3 weeks in California. We will definitely be back ! Sent from my iPhone

AustraliaNothing! Desolation Hotel and their staff are awesome! We arrived late at night due to our flights being delayed, but despite reception being closed, the hotel kept in touch with us and made sure we could access our room without and problems. The service was exceptional.
The Desolation Hotel is sublime! It lived up my expectations after a lot of research on the best places to stay in Lake Tahoe and based on all the expert reviews that I had read in advance. Amazing attention to detail across all aspects of the property and the wonderful friendly staff made this a great place to stay. The room aesthetics are fantastic, Maggie’s restaurant is top notch for either a delicious cocktail or a sumptuous meal, and the pool and spa area with the fire pits and the chill vibes were the perfect spot to relax after a day on the slopes. My wife I travelled from Australia to ski in Tahoe. We have travelled all around the world. So glad we chose to stay at Desolation Hotel!

United Arab EmiratesI wish the tv channels included ESPN so we could watch the college football games and not have to go to a restaurant to watch them as the playoffs were taking place . And also whatever happens try not to stay in room A31 as it’s next to the restroom used by the restaurant Maggie’s and it can be quite noisy
The location is great, the room is just stunning, the staff especially Ellen from front desk is great. She gave us the best recommendations of what to do in Lake Tahoe. We used the gym as well which was great!

United States of AmericaWe had a beautiful stay at Desolation hotel. The rooms were clean, well appointed and stocked with everything we needed. The modern, higher end feel of the room was comfortable and relaxing. We enjoyed the unique fireplace and soaker sub on the balcony. The property was located within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. We would return and highly recommend this property.

The desolation hotel went above and beyond. It’s clear they put so much thought into their rooms. They didn’t miss a single detail. Tons of towels, Dyson hairdryer, subzero fridge, the MOST comfortable mattress and down pillows, wireless chargers, dishes, silverware, drinking glasses, I could go on and on. Trust me you won’t be disappointed, you’ll be blown away.

United States of AmericaThis is our first trip to Lake Tahoe. Our family spent 3 wonderful nights in this hotel. The hotel equipment is very new, very delicate, and very high-quality, but there is a problem that the hotel has too few parking spaces. And the surrounding area is surrounded by hotels, so that we have to park the car on the side of the road, because it is the first time to go to lake tahoe, all the public parks are full and closed, we can't participate in some local play projects and enjoy the beautiful scenery, we recommend the hotel The staff can make some travel suggestions for tourists to optimize their itinerary and get a better experience.

United States of AmericaOne of the toilets was not flushing properly, and the AC units tended to get a of condensation and would drip onto the floor.
Loved the stay, staff was always incredibly helpful and friendly. The staff knew it was my birthday, and they surprised me with a complimentary bottle of chardonnay and the cutest handmade card. Accommodations were fabulous. The beds very comfortable. Loved having a full size kitchen. Pool was lovely, and beach passes were great. I would definitely recommend the property. The townhouse room was very clean and very nicely decorated. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare and serve meals.
