To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

PortugalThe shower had such a soft water pressure that it was barely enough to bathe in. It was also kind of weird because it was just spewing hot water all the time, so if you're not used to hot showers, it won't work for you. We also got breakfast at the hotel, and it wasn't great. There was a small buffet, but the options weren't really good. We had to pay for it since it's not part of our hotel package, but I wouldn't have eaten if I knew that our options were very limited and not that good.
The reception team was really helpful, they assisted us with everything we needed and even gave some recommendations around Miami. We really appreciate how helpful they were, and it made the stay a lot better. The room was clean and fresh, and just the right size for a couple like us.

United States of AmericaRight near the airport, pretty far from downtown sights. Walked to little shopping mall with a good Peruvian restaurant, but to cross the main street we had to dash between lots of moving traffic. No bridge or crosswalk nearby.
Although the airport is very near, we didn't hear the planes from our room. From the pool, yes! From the room, no! Staff were friendly and the room itself was plain, not artsy, but simple and solid. Loved the wood slider door for the bathroom, and the king bed. Oh, and the airport shuttle too.

Very quick and easy check in. Room was large and comfortable and very clean with a large bathroom. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was good quality. About 15 mins from the airport and hotel provides a shuttle that was on time each way.
