Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaCould have used a small mini fridge. Most hotel rooms have them we brought cold beverages snacks and had leftovers from going out to dinner and it all had to get tossed which was a waste of money so it would have been nice to keep things cold convenience also.
We loved the location the good quality sheets the claw footed bathtub was amazing and the cleanliness of the room . Would definitely stay again we loved it

United States of AmericaThe only two things we did not like about the hotel was that there was no cleaning/maid service. We were told we needed to call to have service provided. Did not realize it was only for towels and trash. We did receive new towels one day when we asked. The second time we asked, we never received them. Would have loved to have coffee replacement each day and the bed made. This is just our preference, though. The second, was that the bathroom was dark - not enough lighting. As a woman, I need good lighting in the bathroom. Otherwise, the room/hotel was perfect.
Loved the location. The hotel was beautiful and well kept. The staff was friendly. Loved the rooftop bar! Everything was exceptionally clean. The beds were very comfortable and we loved that the air conditioning worked really well. Friendly staff too. We would stay here again.

United States of AmericaVery little storage (only one small armoire), light switches and outlets are poorly placed (main lighting was near door 30 feet from bed, lights at bed were controlled from only one switch 6 feet from the bed), and the shower has only a rain head and no hand held shower head. Also unusual was the lack of a refrigerator.
The hotel is great, but room amenities are lacking. The room was very large, but not well thought out.

United States of AmericaThe rooms don't have mini-fridges but you can request one. It seems like they could put one in each room permanently since there's only 18 rooms. Also there's no place to get ice, you have to request it from the front desk which is not staffed after 11. And no vending to pick up a soda or bottled water. We bought them from the Gelato place next door after we went a night with no water. The lighting in the bathroom wasn't conducive to seeing yourself clearly in the mirror for make-up, shaving and putting in contacts.
The location and the staff and the room were excellent! We walked to food and bars and to Vinoy Park for the Reggae Rise Up festival every day. The front desk people were nice and went out of their way for us. One even went to our car that was parked in valet and looked for a pair of sunglasses for us, and brought back our chair so we could take it to the festival. We had heard the room could be noisy so we took our portable sound machine and had no issues with restaurant patrons or other guests coming home later than us and talking loudly in the hall.

United States of AmericaThe guy at the front desk was awesome, but we felt bad that he was responsible for answering the phone, checking in/ checking out guests, tagging luggage, and being the valet which sometimes meant the desk was unmanned. We didn't mind waiting and it wasn't a very long wait, but we just felt bad that he was the only one doing all those jobs.... hire someone to help him out! Or assign one of the many wait staff that were available to help him out.

United States of AmericaEvery Downtown hotel we've stayed with offers complimentary bottled water. The Birchwood charges $11 a bottle.
Location is great and terrible. You are in a beautiful location close to everything but because of the rooftop bar it is loud. If your a bit of a night owl then this would be no issue. Once the bar closes it is very quiet. The front desk is so kind and welcoming. Breakfast is very nice.

United States of AmericaThe staff were exceptionally accommodating but we hated having to ask for ice rather than having access to it ourselves. It’s a small thing, but something we’ve become accustomed to during our travels. There was construction on an adjoining building which began early in the morning during the workweek. The noise of the crowd during Happy Hour was a bit distracting.
The Birchwood is ideally located for easy access to Beach Drive, wonderful restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, the pier, walking, biking, and a gorgeous park full of others taking advantage of the perfect weather to enjoy a stroll, walking a dog, or having a picnic. The small hotel itself is remarkably historic while being beautifully updated. The Burch and Vine Restaurant offered delightful cuisine, including room service for those evenings that we just wanted to enjoy our plush room and a good movie. The roof top Canopy Bar offered a beautiful view of the water across the park.
