Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The staff is amazing (thanks Kai and Pricilla!) and gave us a great tip about a hot springs trail that was stunning. We felt very welcome there and enjoyed chatting with fellow travellers in the common area. The bunks felt very private with the curtains and a little reading light and the beds were great, as were the bathrooms. Very clean and spacious. We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay, as did many others!

Amazing hostel! Well run by a nice staff, clean, beds with curtains/USB as well as regular plugs/ a light, a small exterior with tables. You have lockers outside the rooms so bring your lock or else they’ll lend you one for a couple dollars. Cute interior design. Small but very social hostel, with events everyday! Breakfast is included with fruits, coffee, eggs and pancakes that you have to cook. Only a few steps away of State street, the train station, the pier, and the beach! Perfect location. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Santa Barbara

No parking included in the fare and difficulties in finding one with a decent rate.
Good hostel to stay with a very convenient location. Good facilities and common spaces. Light breakfast was available. Staff was very kind.

There is nothing not to like.
Amazing location with waking distance to the beach and heart of SB, chill vibe, super comfy and clean rooms, friendly and helpful staff. It was my first trip solo and I’m so glad I stayed there !

DONT BOOK WITH BOOKING.COM!!! Go and book directly to the ITH Hostel website online. It’s half price if you book directly with the hostel. Booking.com is a rip off and they will never provide you a price correction or refund for the difference. Terrible experience going through booking.com.
This hostel is awesome! The location is amazing, the people are great, the female dorm room is so cozy and wonderful! The only negative thing i have to say is about booking.com and not the hostel itself.

I just didn't like the bed and the linen. It could have been of better quality.
The location of the hostel was excellent. It's next to Santa Barbara station, so anyone who wants to take a train or get here by train can get there. The beach was a block away, maybe 5 min. State Street, where all the fun places are, is also a block away. Breakfast was basic and served until 9 am when the reservation said 10 am, but that's ok. Either I wasn't told that, or I didn't remember. The staff organized fun activities every evening, which was great. They were very friendly and helpful.

I've been here before and love this place. For a hostel with dormitory style rooms and bunk beds, it was fabulous. Especially since there were fewer people than usual, but overall, guests and staff have been very respectful.

There is nothing to dislike.
The location is great. Close to the train station, close to the beach and downtown. The Hostel is by the river, if you are a morning person like me, you would love having your coffee by the river or maybe some Yoga. The beds are very comfortable, the room is spacious, bathrooms are clean and of a good standard. Self-made chocolate chip pancakes are great for breakfast. The patio by the river is a bonus, you can rarely see a patio like this at a hostel. It is a bit pricey but, you can compensate for it with coffee, breakfast, and comfort. The staff is very young, they love laughter and having fun. Overall, the young staff adds to the Hostel's great vibe. I can't understand why other clients complain about this. I don't see any negativity in a bunch of young people having fun while working. This is a 10 out of 10 hostel, book it without hesitation and enjoy your pancakes in the morning. "Elza" is the employee of the day, week, and year ;-)

The shower room has no box for hanging out clothes and towels

Really nice staff. Very modern hostel. Nice and comfy beds. Outlets for every bed. Clean and modern bathrooms. Nice kitchen. Eggs and pancakes for breakfast. Very nice neighborhood, walking distance to downtown and the beach. I had an excellent stay and would definitely stay there again.

There is nothing to complain about
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They try to create a very comfortable atmosphere by offering a variety of activities to bring the people in the hostel together. The rooms were very clean and had a good size. The beds were amazing and so comfortable. Every bed had a curtain for privacy, a little light, and plugs to change the phone. The bathrooms were also very clean. It's located right next to the train station and not too far away from the beautiful beach. They offer a delicious breakfast with pancakes, fruits, and eggs also tea and coffee. The outside area is very nice too, with seatings where one can enjoy the sun and just chill. The whole hostel has a very good vibe, and I'd definitely recommend staying there.

This time I was in another room and it had curtains and was much nicer for privacy. Really good location, you can actually cook in this hostel which is nice.
