The receptionist was mean and not too friendly. She didn’t let us use the lobby restroom and didn’t get us at all . She was wearing her AirPods which made it look very unprofessional. I couldn’t see her name tag so I don’t have her name but she is a young lady.

My room was on the first floor and there was some partying noise in the lobby but it stopped around 10:30 or 11.

I didn't use the breakfast room but overall the La Quinta was more than adequate and the price was right.

Solid location, about 20 min from central and downtown Berkeley by bus, about 45 min- 1 hr walking. Room was clean, checkin and checkout very easy, hotel held baggage all day without a problem.

I did not like the rudeness of the male front desk receptionist. I was treated very rudely by this older staff member for no reason at all. He then proceeded to argue with me as I was making arrangements upon exiting.

Breakfast ran out of food. In particular, there was never any butter or butter-like substance present. Twice they ran out of hard boiled eggs. Three days before I left the elevator broke. And stayed broken (probably needed a part ordered). This caused a lot of inconvenience. You are lucky the only other elevator, so small about 3 people fit in it) didn’t break! Whatever the breakfast room attendant uses to clean it is strong and offensive. She starts to spray around 8:45, seemingly to shoo us all out. I had to leave this morning because the cleaning solution was almost nausea inducing. This hotel needs to be more clear about what is recyclable and provide a recycling bin near the breakfast room. Little black plastic stirrers should be banished.

I stay here every time I come to Berkeley or Oakland. The staff is always friendly and helpful, rooms are quiet and comfortable and the hotel is always very clean. It is only a couple of blocks from 4th street with lots of coffee shops, restaurants and fun places to shop. Close to many other restaurants on University as well. I am very comfortable here. Breakfast does the job.

There was a "lived in" smell to the second floor hallway. In a word, I would say it smelled musty. The furniture in the room looked like they've seen better days, but I didn't sit on any of the chairs so it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Lastly, I asked for two wake up phone calls in the morning, but they did not happen. I set the alarm clock in the room and also set up several alarms on my phone, so I was able to wake up on time. Again, this was not a deal breaker for me.

I stayed overnight to be closer to the Emeryville Amtrak station to catch a shuttle for the 2024 SF Hot Chocolate Run. I appreciated the continental breakfast - though I did not eat the hot meal, I had boiled eggs, a warm bagel and cream cheese, coffee, and fruit. This helped keep me energized during my 10K race. I also appreciated the free parking. Anyone who is from the Bay Area knows that parking here is hefty and can run up to $32/day in some places. The location of this hotel is great because it's walkable to the 4th street shops and restaurants, is easy to get picked up from by ride sharing app drivers, is close to multiple gas stations if you need to fill up your tank, and is so close to the freeway and Amtrak station. The price was hard to beat, especially for staying in Berkeley. Some of the reviews on this website had me so worried about seeing cockroaches, but the room I had was very clean (Room 210). The bed was comfortable and appeared clean. I usually have trouble sleeping anywhere new, especially hotel rooms, but I fell asleep quite easily and stayed asleep throughout the night. Finally, the customer service I received when checking in was amazing and checking out was a breeze.

Government travelers should be able to have tax exemptions. I sent my tax exemption letter from my employer and I was denied tax exemption, even after I did was I was asked to do to get the taxes exempted. :(

The breakfast was good considering I do not eat a whole lot.
