To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

we loved the location! so peaceful and beautiful! it was the best of both worlds! city life was near, yet the solitude of the outdoors was amazing!

United States of AmericaPersonally, I could have done with much less communication. During the time of this booking alone, I received 11 emails and 6 texts. I feel like this is far too much for a one night stay. Some of the communication was too late to be helpful. For example, I received 2 emails and a text after 1pm with reminders about garbage when check out was 11am. We didn't end up staying in the house; it didn't have anything to do with the issue mentioned below. We were in town for a concert and drove about 90 miles. We booked the house as a place to stay in case we didn't feel like we could drive back home. I notified the host at 10:30am the morning of check out and then got a text at 12:30pm asking if we wanted to extend our stay. I think this may have been an automatic message that is sent when the night following a stay is open. But 12:30pm was too late when check out was firm at 11am (you are notified in advance that check in time is firm at 3pm and check out at 11am). We had one small issue. When we arrived, there was no toilet paper in one of the bathrooms, and only one roll in the other bathroom. He texted me to check on our arrival (not part of the 6 texts I already mentioned) and I told him about the paper issue. He replied back that if we needed more than what was provided, we would have to provide our own. He also sent photos (I assume from the cleaning crew) showing that there was toilet paper in both bathrooms, with extra rolls. The photos weren't of the house we we staying in so I sent him photos of the actual bathrooms. No reply from the host after that.
The check in process was far easier than a hotel. Instructions were sent ahead of check-in and they were detailed. The house was clean and appeared exactly like it was advertised and the price was reasonable. The area was quiet and close to a major area, but not too close.
