No elevator, not sure if this is mentioned anywhere. The restaurant was closed Mon-Tue. Bar was open though. Pillows, pillows on the bed, yes pillows, too many 6 plus, filled 1/2 the closet.

Location. Easy to find. Old, old school decor.

My husband would have liked a television. I was fine without it. The $15.00 dollars to check in two hours early

We loved the room. The hotel is over 100 years old. We did have to climb a set of stairs, which was not a problem for us. The beds were comfortable and it was very clean. Enjoyed the free pastries for breakfast.

The shower curtain around the claw foot tub was a little dirty with old soap residue and dirt from a previous guest.

The hotel was an amazing historical building, full of very friendly and helpful staff, lots of history, and great matching era decor. The coffee shop and pastry in the morning was a pleasant addition.

Stairs are a necessary part of this lodging experience. It’s a little difficult to know which door to enter to find the registration desk.

We enjoyed staying in a thoughtfully appointed historic building. The beds and linens were very comfortable and the room was spacious and quiet. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We had an authentic yet comfortable small town experience. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee and pastry in the morning.

When we came down for dinner, we were turned away because they decided to close 1 1/2 hours early. We asked about there business hours when we checked in just a few hours before.

We loved the historical architecture. Our room was very clean and comfortable . After we checked in, we stopped in at the restaurant to have coffee and find out their business hours.

What a fun, quirky, historic place to stay -- with charm and delight

The bathroom is very tiny, and attention is needed to improve the draining of the tub while showering. There is a bit of road noise as the room faces the street, but that's partly because we wanted open windows to sleep. The bed there is only a double, but very comfy. We wished the restaurant was open, but Covid has put a pause on that, along with many other local restaurants and businesses, as is the case most everywhere these days. The cafe has delicious coffee and amazing pastries. We loved our stay, all in all.

This place is charming and historic and quirky. Each room is decorated around a different theme. We stayed in The Spirit of Africa, which is very charming. Lots of pretty old furniture, comfortable chairs and an old-time feel.

Lovely Old Hotel to Escape Modern Conveniences
    • Leisure trip

Reception is in the coffee shop, don't recommend dinner at the inside restaurant (wait staff was very nice but the food was awful) and the bed in our room should have been recycled five years ago with a dip right in the middle. The wifi was also very bad (that might be a good thing if you're looking to escape the matrix!)

Great old hotel in the heart of the small town of Alturas. The staff were all very friendly and engaged with us well, sharing history and the stories of it being haunted. We actually looked for evidence of ghosts but found nothing, sadly for us. The ambiance was great, the hallways creaked like you want them to and I loved the main staircase to the second floor. We really enjoyed staying there. And the best part was the coffee shop on site, serving Starbucks favorites, ice cream and local pastries. Real breakfast on some days was also very nice.

    Bed and bathroom were small.

Historic hotel with charm and interesting period decor. Room was small as expected because the hotel is over 100 years old. Stairs only, so if you have access restrictions, may not be for you. It was very quiet.
