Not much at all. Did notice wallpaper in our room was starting to peel away. But it is a lovely hotel.

Almost because nothing could be perfect... we experienced probably the worst night you could imagine. At around 11pm the fire alarm went off and we were awaken in a full panic from a deep sleep. On the 8th floor!!! Yikes... Apparently it was a false alarm, but it kept going off. It would go on and off. We'd fall back asleep and then it would go off again. Repeat at least 8-10 times from 11pm until just after midnight. We heard the fire trucks come in with their sirens blaring too. Terrible, experience! But that was no fault of the staff and/or hotel. That kind of nonsense "just happens" at least you know your equipment works!! Haa.

Wonderful staff, classy well maintained ambiance, beautiful. We stayed after hearing someone win a raffle for a 2 night stay at the "O Henry." (Won at the Wizard of Oz play at the Carolina) decided to see what the big deal was. The bed was cozy, our view was great. The room was neat and clean. Bathroom had a soaking tub(with rubber ducky) and stand up shower. Very comfortable stay. Our dinner server David, was absolutely wonderful. What a great personality! Friendly and engaging and he knew the menu well because everything he suggested was great! (I'm inclined to believe anything would have been good) We encountered several other staff members who were just as friendly(Jasmine(sp) in the restaurant, and Taylor? at the front desk) and you have one server who we noticed had really defined arm muscles. We asked her about it.. She is competitive (Please support her) those muscles were impressive! :)...but we spent the most time with Davjd ( over a meal). Also the exercise equipment was great(I especially liked the TRX straps) I could go on and on. Keep up the good work!

Hotel overall was very clean. Including the room. They have done a great job with the decor and design making you feel as if you have stepped back in time. We ate two meals at Green Valley Grill (dinner and brunch) and both were excellent. Enjoyed the aveda bath products and harney & sons tea (which I happen to drink at home) ! Would most definitely stay here again,

The room and history were wonderful, but on a teacher's salary in NC (46th down the list in the US), it is not something I would be able to plan regularly. It was more for the historical experience.

The historical aspect was perhaps the biggest draw. I'd heard of the hotel from someone involved with Odyssey of the Mind, but the place is a bit on the expensive side for most of us who volunteer for such activities.

no cleaning service for the room unless requested (we arrived late, and could not request it in time for the following day). I believe, by now, cleaning the room every morning should be the default, in a good quality hotel, unless the guest explicitly opts out. covid is no longer a good excuse for lack of service.
