Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsBathroom was a bit tired and shared with many. Furthermore the AC was broken so it was very warm in the small room with 5 persons.
Close to the city; bunks were upgraded to a stable wooden frame (not in the photos), but were now 3 levels. So couldn’t sit upright in bed.

PakistanI would definitely say that the owner needs to be polite as the hospitality industry don't need such kind of behaviour even if the customer is wrong. There are 4 doors you need to unlock several times every day. The main door, main lobby door, bedroom door and the bathroom door each one have a separate lock with touch pad. I was sometime unable to unlock the bedroom door with my code as compared to other doors which were working fine each time with same code. I get blocked by the door lock system while my phone was inside and a guy from the neighboring bedroom helped me to communicate with the owner.. I complained him that there is something wrong with the bedroom lock and it needs to be addressed, the first sentence he replied was "there is nothing wrong with the lock and what's wrong is with you". It's quite harsh to say it so straight. Even when he came to the property his behaviour was similar and he said I need to put more attention while entering the code. To cut it short, I figured out that the time limit to input next digit after the previous was set to a very short period and I need to enter the code asap rather than putting more attention on each digit. The other annoying thing was the alarm sound with each door which rings every time on every door even in the midnight. There was no message prior to my arrival from the property that the main door needs a passcode and there will be no one to assist you at the property. Luckily I was having the internet so I messaged through booking.com but what if someone doesn't?
The Property was clean, usually the Dormitories or the common bathrooms are not that clean but this was not the case with this property, it was clean all around.

GermanyIf you are coming from Europe, don't expect a hostel you are used to. It is more like Airbnb, but with many beds in one room. There is no staff to help you, if you have any problems. You cannot leave your luggage after check out, because no one is around. There is NO breakfast, at least I have not seen any. Then, if you want to see the NYC you need to get a train over there, so if you add ticket cost maybe it is not worth to pay less for accommodation.
Generally it is an okay place to stay for one night stay if you want to be close to the Newark airport. So to me location was the most important thing.

United States of AmericaIt was hardly a hostel. It appeared to be a shelter and the bathroom was not cleaned, the three days I was there. The common area was dark, dingy and territorial. And the fridge was stacked with spoilt food, making it impossible to store anything. On the last day, I asked for a cab # or reference for a taxi company, but they declined and feigned no knowledge. That was as shocking as it was inconveniencing. The stairs were small and steep and when I asked the owner (very politely) to help me with my luggage. He lied about going out. But was there the whole time, as I struggled with my bags. I sustained injuries, on my shin and knee. This is not a hostel and/or hotel!!!
This is not a typical hostel and should not be advertised as such. Though the owner tried to appear friendly, a lot was off here. It is deceptive. This is not what I expected, not is it what anyone who books on line expects.

United States of AmericaI got locked out immediately once my booking time expired, due to an automated door system. This was very inconvenient because I had nearly everything packed and misread my check out time by 30 minutes. I ended up waiting around in the living room for hours until management contacts me back. I am writing this before the issue has been resolved. I think the automated doors is useful but to avoid situations like this management must be more prepared, because the purpose of the doors is to get expired tenants out quickly, not inadvertently hold them in limbo for hours after their check out time. Because at the end of the day, we cannot just willingly leave without our things. And people will always go slightly over their check out time. So this is why it's good for an actual person to manage check out times, not just a system.
Was quiet and I like the private curtains on the bunks and the bathroom was very clean.

United States of AmericaThe location is quite far from the airport. It's on a crowded street and only found parking when one of the residents pointed me to an area. The rooms are cramped with beds. I only had to stay one night so did not use any of the common areas
The host was responsive to a call and sent code to enter as I arrived late. The location was supposed to be close to Newark Airport where I had to be early the next morning. The other guests were nice and helpful.

AlgeriaThis hostel is considered one of the worst in New York, it does not have a reception to welcome you and guide you, and if you arrive late you will be able to sleep outside even if you have a reservation for that night. I found myself with a mentally ill person... sharing the same room as me, talking to himself day and night, depriving you of comfort and peace. I lodged a complaint via SMS with the hostel manager and the response did not arrive until very late. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone even if it was free.

SwitzerlandIt’s said breakfast included but there were 2 cereal bars and that’s it (see picture “lobby”). The tenant said it would be “in the kitchen, no worries”. I was expecting yoghurt, eggs or cereal but got nothing. At arrival, I was stuck with a roommate of mine because the tenant was not there, I was behind the door and no one could open. However, I called and the tenant came 15 minutes after but still, I had announced my arrival time. The alarm system was untraditional, every time a door was opened, it would beep which is not enjoyable when you want some chill time.
The bed was comfy
