Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SwedenThe decor looked like it did in the 80s. Same colors, and building was worn out. The restaurant was scruffy and outdated.
The view from the rooms - magical sunrise! The comfortable beds.

United KingdomThe adjoining 48 degrees north restaurant and bar was convenient and friendly but the simple food was average and expensive.
Very handy location on the seafront close to the Black Ball (Victoria) ferry; and also close to the town centre with many eating options. The Red Lion is essentially a large good quality motel.

United States of AmericaThe property is definitely an older piece of property, but they are working to improve it. You could tell they were doing renovations in different sections.
The view from the rooms facing the water was beautiful. The location of the property was good walking distance to places to eat.

United States of AmericaVery old slider, half of which was hazy. Toilet ran and had to be manually corrected a few times. Bed was creaky and pretty firm. For the most part we felt safe, but for a situation when we had to take our dog out at 2 am (ran into a suspicious vehicle/occupants which forced us to turn around after they exited the car towards us as we were trying to walk back inside). Outlets on one side of the bed did not work. Fridge smelled.
The view was great.

United States of AmericaHeater cycles on and off at 15 second intervals. $177 is pretty pricey for a weekday at a Red Lion without a water view.

United States of AmericaIn room coffee amenities were sparse and when I called for some coffee packets in the morn (8am) was told I would have to go to lobby to get it as the person who answered the phone was the only one on staff. I’m not so entitled that I couldn’t go get it myself, but would have been nice to have coffee before I had to walk out across the parking lot to get some. Also, the lobby smelled old and dirty and there were no sheets or extra blankets on our beds, just the comforter.
The view was amazing and location very convenient. Beds were very comfortable!

United KingdomWhen checking in the room wasn't ready as we arrived before 4:00 (check in time). Arrived back at 4:00 room still wasn't ready and so they charged us an extra $20 to get an upgrade so we could check in. Very poor as the room was supposed to be ready. The main lady in charge was very grumpy and not helpful.
The room was good and comfortable.

United States of AmericaThey have hidden charges they don't tell you about. I have been going about monthly for the last five months. I just realized that my bill ends up about $80 more than the math. They charge "resort fees" daily, and a "services fee" daily. Not sure what those are for since I didn't go anything extra. They don't serve breakfast, and for anyone handicapped they have no elevator. Love the room and the view, but I won't be using them anymore. It's the principle of the thing for me, when they throw in hidden fees.
The view on the water side is great. Restaurant and walking paths nearby.
