Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Although it has been remodeled, they didn’t do a great job. The fit and finish is sub-standard. There was an air, light, and bug gap under the entry door! The desk person was unnecessarily argumentative when we had a disagreement about the checkout date. It turned out it was my online booking error. But when I suggested there had been a misunderstanding on one of our parts, and it didn’t matter who was at fault, they acted very offended, and spent the next ten minutes berating me for suggesting it could have been their mistake. I just wanted to correct the booking and move on.
Good location in Carlsbad Village. Best price in the area.

Tiny room, no storage for bags and clothes, constant noice by staff, always fixing something, trains noice in all hours, no utensils, no cups & plates.

TV remote didn't work, beds were not that comfortable, shower had someone else's hair in it, and the trains honk right behind the motel, which is very loud.
Close to shops and the beach. Room was fine, not great but not terrible. Good value for money compared to other places in Carlsbad.

Very bad internet connection, constantly turning on and off Room was OK for only one person, not big enough for two. No coffee.
Clean, comfortable bed, quiet area of town. You could park right outside the room.

The place needs a lot of attention. Some guests do not follow non-smoking rules. They need to put grip bars in shower area. A $30 fee for a dog was outrageous.

Breakfast would have been nice but we had a microwave in our room and BBQs at the beach.Oir tv didn't work.
There wasn't breakfast but it was clean and quiet very relaxing my husband is an David fisherman so we spent most of our time at the beach.Truely lovely as usual.Wevtend to go there often for fishing.

Tried to charge $100 plus card transaction fee of $7. They don't hold the $100 they actuallytake from the account. If not card, then cash.
Clean room, cozy and parking right in front of my room window. Good TV channels to choose from. Nice location downtown Carlsbad walking distance to beach, restaurants, shops.

The floor was very very dirty it needs a deep cleaning for sure.
I enjoyed the area but the floor needs a bit more cleaning definitely a double scrub because it was very dirty other then that everything else was great.

They upgraded our room to two queens but the refrigerator was smaller and didnt have a freezer. There looked like there was dried paint on the blanket and table.

The room (#118) has obviously been renovated within the last few years and is mostly comfortable, however overall cleanliness lets this motel down to a significant extent. The floors were so dirty (the bottom of my feet ended up brown from walking around the room getting my things ready for the next day), the box aircon/heater was mouldy/grimy, and the sink was having issues draining. The bedspread also had what looked like cigarette holes burned into it (surely buying a new bedspread is an easy and affordable fix.). Some motel guests were quite loud in the carpark, and as other reviews have mentioned, the noise from the rooms next door travelled.
Fantastic location - the motel is set back only a couple of blocks from the beach and is within easy walking distance if you want to watch the sunset along the ocean. The location is more towards the end of Carlsbad Boulevard but is only a short stroll from where you can find shops, cafes, restaurants and the like.
