To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Japan-Shark House charges additional 70USD cleaning fee for one staying after paying the hotel fee on booking.com. booking.com site does not indicate that we are charged it, and you could know that after completing the payment on booking.com. Bad. - room2 has shower room but it is outside of room2. In order to use shower room, we need to go out room2 and enter. Not good. - Need keycode to use room2 shower room but they did not notice the keycode. I needed to ask them when I need to use it. Very Bad. - in order to use room2, you need 3 keycode, to enter house, to enter room2, to enter room2 shower room. You may fee it is too much. - room2 shower room does not have toilet paper when I wanted to use. I needed to ask them to bring toilet paper when I needed to use. Very Bad. - window of room2 faces the outside couch space under the eaves, where other guests get together and talk, and smoke. you may feel the conversation is laud. - room2 is on ground floor and there are 3 independent rooms, which share the Kitchen. No information booking.com site. You should know those above before choosing Shark House. booking.com should indicate all those information on the site.

United States of AmericaThey did not accommodate early check-in despite my asking three times beforehand and they confirmed twice before the date. They wanted to charge $35 for an “early cleaning service”. They charge a standard $70 after you reserve through Booking. I decided to wait for a regular check in. The worst was there were ants in the restroom, a dirty toilet, and barely any TP or shampoo when I arrived. Getting the entry codes was a little hard because they did not activate the entrance code and forgot to give me the bathroom code. The main entrance lock did not lock at all times. I let the on site manager know about this, and it was not fixed, so safety is also questionable. I arrived in a rainy season, and this is an older construction house that has been renovated. It was cold because multiple out of my reach windows were opened and since there were multiple people staying nobody used the heater (I do not even know if it worked). Due to all of the above, I wanted to cut my stay short, but the process never happened because of their unresponsiveness through Booking.

United States of AmericaThought I was getting an apartment by the description, but it was a shared house. I was there most of the time, so that was OK. No living ruin area, so I spent most of the time in my bedroom. Since I was working most of the time, that was OK.
