To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Curaçao1) The property was very dirty, especially the barbeque which we had to clean before using and according to the owner's extended cleaning manual, to be cleaned again after we used it. The oven was also very very dirty and the fireplace was full of ashes. Cobwebs in a.o. numerous ornamentals, fake flowers, window sills, and blinds. The carpet was here and there sticky. We found the swimsuits of the owners in a bucket. The garage was a mess. There was still bedding in the dryer. There was an unused condom in a cupboard. The kitchen cabinets and drawers were dirty. It felt like using someone's home, who lived there and was out for a week. Not like a crisp and clean rental vacation home. We paid over 200 dollars in cleaning fees for a 3-day stay, but according to the manual we, the renters, had to clean the whole house: take out all trash, sweep floors, clean bbq, take off all bedding and put in the bathroom, put all towels near the washing machine, etc. The manual says that if the house is not found in an acceptable way, you will be fined. This feels so unwelcoming. What a ridiculous amount of work and then pay 200 dollars for what? If you charge such a big amount in cleaning fees, please, hire a cleaner to do the job and do not depend on the renter to clean your house. It is perfectly normal to ask the renters to take the trash out and put all moved furniture back to its original place, but this is too much. 2) There was a dog in the cabin up the hill, who was constantly barking, while outside. 3) The sink in two of the three bathrooms did not give water. 4) There are three surveillance cameras spying on you while using the porch and the hot tub. No privacy whatsoever. The rules and the surveillance cameras felt very unwelcoming, We will never book this cabin again.
The hot tub was warm but the headrest was worn out and looked dirty to use. From the porch swing, there was a view of the mountains.
