Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

It served me well. I was undergoing surgery at the nearby UCSF hospital. My family was able to comfortably visit me until I returned to the hotel with them for an extended revovery period.

Reviews said the property had a great breakfast. I thought the breakfast left a lot to be desired.
Location to UCSF Medical Center, historical aspect of the property, all the historical pictures. All the staff were great.

Loading and unloading the car near the entrance was marginal. The parking is a bit of a hassle.
Liked location near Golden Gate Park. Hotel interiors were lovely.

No screens on windows. Had window open to air out room while we went to dinner and had many mosquitos come in

My room had one tiny window. The bathroom window didn’t fit properly. As a result both rooms were cold.

There was a pervading stale odor that I believe emanate from the carpeted floors. Carpets absorb all kind of odors and they should be vaccumed and shampooed frequently or replaced by a different type of material. The first room I was assigned had a stained carpet with a strong odor and I was given another room that was acceptable. the bathrroom, bedding and furniture were OK

WIFI was absolutely terrible - I could not have work meetings. Certain outlets would not charge my computer. Had to go work at a coffee shop nearby.

nothing really. The building is old so the doors and windows let in sound which was to be expected with old buildings in San Francisco
The room was clean and didn't smell like detergents like some hotels do. I was extremely happy with the level of cleanliness since this is an older building. The room has carpet but you wouldn't know since there was no smell. Chocolates on the pillow were a nice touch.

While getting ready to leave I noticed an article of clothing under the chair that was not mine. The housekeeper must have missed seeing it. Otherwise, the room was great.

A coffee maker in the room would’ve been nice , especially at night .

Our room was 'inner' meaning it had two windows facing a very small fire-escape tract. Consequently the air was not really fresh. We were unable to turn the heater off. The included breakfast was self serve with all single use PLASTIC! Felt totally wrong in such a classic hotel!
Really cool hotel in a great location in SF. Nice classic style. The hotel offered a wine and cheese hour, but while the wine was drinkable the cheese was rather 'plastic'.

The (lower category) rooms are very cozy (ie. read small, somewhat cramped), whereas the room rates are rather steep, but I guess you're paying for the unique/special location where there are few options.
The hotel garners a unique location at the doorstep to Golden Gate Park, Haight Street and other cool areas of SF where hotels are kind of hard to find. The breakfast room is very cozy with a nice spread of items.

No coffee maker in the room. I left 2 shirts hanging in the closet, have sent 2 emails requesting they send them to me, have not had a response.
Breakfast was adequate. Wine and cheese hour was a bonus.
