Unfortunately, the area around the motel is a bit depressing, close to a freight rail that you can hear at night, and with very few dining options within walking distance. Fortunately, one of the few choices is a very good Jamaican joint! All said, I would still recommend this motel, for travelers like me who rely on public transportation.

Love the motel's mid-century character! Also like how the room is spotless and stocked very generously with coffee, toiletries and towels. And a direct bus line to town (where you can either walk to - or change to free shuttles - to the various historic points of interest).

A change from the big corporate chains... and an easy Uber to French Quarter etc. The retro feel is brilliantly combined with modern tech. Loved it.

The bed was too high and the room was not dark.

Very nice. I liked the online check-in. We got there late so we were able to just go straight to our room. Bed was a little high off of the floor. I am short so it was a little difficult getting in and out of bed. The room was not dark. Some how even with the drapes closed the light from outside still got in and made the room too light for my taste. Otherwise the place was great.

As a less than tech savvy person, I was not comfortable with the check-in process and lack of a person on site when I was having an issue. The neighbourhood was a bit "dodgy" make us uncomfortable with walking to a couple of the local restaurants.

You have to have a car to get anywhere.

This place was so well designed. The owners thought through every detail of the hotel and also, the customer's experience. The smell of the room was good (so rare with hotels and especially motels), the artwork on the walls was thoughtful in a design and fashion way. The bed was comfortable, and firm. The hotel lobby and bar upstairs were destinations in and of themselves. And the check in/out and communication with the office was very easy with no issues whatsoever. If we ever visit Charleston again, I would definitely stay here.

Had some trouble getting the self-serve check in to work, and the room doesn’t have much sound proofing. It was quite noisy with a nearby party, other guests, and trains going by. That’s really my only complaint

It is a cute and nostalgic place that I found to be perfect for a stop during a road trip. The rooms were clean and had a charming retro-style, which added to the overall experience. The room and shower was big with lots of natural lights. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a unique and enjoyable stay during their travels.

Area that it is located - not walkable .

Great , extremely clean , safe motor inn just out side of Charleston . Area not walkable but felt like a Palm Springs motel . Bed extremely comfortable , nice little pool area and the Burgundy lounge was fun. Would stay here again as it affordable without extra cleaning fees .

The only fault I found was the internet coverage was intermittent and interfered with watching TV--which I believe received its signal from the facility's WiFi signal. This should be an easy fix and didn't detract from the great stay I had.

The Starlight was super cool, clean, newly furnished and appointed, easy to find, and extremely comfortable inn. It is an incredible value as well given the rates one would typically pay in the Charleston area. I have already recommended the Starlight Motor Inn to numerous friends and look forward to staying there again. It was an easy 5 mile drive into downtown where you've got access to numerous parking garages.

The door lock was a little tricky when locking from the inside. My friend went out to check whether it was really locked or not, just to be sure it worked, which it did. That was really the only thing worth noting...

The retro style was fantastic. Very clean and fresh, seemed to be recently renovated. Best motel I have stayed in. Great value for the price.
