Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThere were partially used containers of shampoo and toothpaste, along with a used toothbrush waiting for me in the room (there was also unused shampoo and soap, fwiw). I'm all for conserving resources, but I am not quite that punk rock anymore. Also, the room pictured did not reflect the room I stayed in, but that is no big deal.
My room was under $100. It was a bit loud, in a neighborhood some might find "scary". It is essentially a SRO, not a hotel geared to tourists who want a pampered visit to San Francisco, but it served my purposes fine, and it was under $100.

GermanyLocation should be perfect but the hotel surroundings is daunting. Too many homeless, drug addicts around it. They are usually harmless but better safe than sorry, I did not dare walking at evenings in the area. The fridge needed to be defrosted. The room needs a special cleaning to remove dust from blind spots
The staff is very friendly. Comfortable bed, clean bedclothes, good TV and with nice amenities such as microwave and small fridge. The shower was good too

United States of AmericaEvery time I have visited the property, I was put in question about the amenities.
The price, on Booking.com, is always less than. The property was located in an area that I was USED to. I had the conveniency of nearby shopping , to purchase necessary items, if I had forgotten them at home, for a night’s stay.

BulgariaIt is good to know that the area around the hotel is one of the least safe in San Francisco. It is full of drug addicts and homeless people, so I would not recommend walking alone in the dark. My room faced a side street and I could hear the screams and fights of the people outside. What I did not like about my room is that I had no upper sheet for the duvet. As duvets are usually not washed, I did not have the feeling I slept in clean bed linen. The room also has a fridge and other facilities if one would like to stay there for longer (which I would not recommend for the above reasons).
The staff was very friendly, kind and helpful. They really created a sense of safety in this run-down area. The wi-fi connection was good. I had my own bathroom in the room, so that was also a plus.

United States of AmericaThere are sometimes homeless and drug addicts in the vicinity (they don’t bother you unless you bother them) so I might not recommend for a solo female. nothing that the establishment can control so it’s not their fault
went to SF for a convention and this place was close and for a great price. Was a basic room nothing too special but the location was nice, restaurants near the area which were open late.

United KingdomThe noise due to the vast amounts of homelessness outside was unbearable to sleep through. I literally cried when I saw the burnt cigarets stains/ pubic hair on my sheets. That one street (6th street) where the hotel is located on has to be the worst in the city. This really made my time in San Fran not that great. The hotel also smelled like pee. The cleaner really needs to invest in a vacuum cleaner and mattress protectors. My private bathroom’s doorknob was a rusty nail, very dangerous. I understand that this hotel is cheap but a little more attention to the cleanliness would have gone a long way. I also don’t recommend travelling as a single female. I was always back by 19:00 but got harassed outside the hotel while waiting to be buzzed in.
The hotel manager provided me with brand new sheets and duvet, which I highly recommend asking for.

United KingdomHomeless people in the alley can be heard all night we were there on a Monday - Wednesday, I cannot imagine what this is like on a weekend. They are persistent and clearly a big drug problem, with lots of arguments. I must say I didn't feel threatened or intimidated by them due to how out of it they were. The staff were indifferent, one lad was nice and friendly, the other continued his phone call when we left and ignored us completely when we gave back the key. We could hear someone wretching every morning. The place feels cramped. There is a good TV and fridge/microwave but I'd suggest less investment in this and more in the bathroom area and general cleanliness, but you get what you pay for and if you're in a budget like we were and are travelling here for a few days I'd say it's probably just about worth it
Location was close to all the sights in San Francisco and it's cheap.
