There was all night mechanical noise, like the dryer was running above us. The pillows were flat and hard as a rock. Should be updated. All in all, clean and convenient, for the price.

Convenient location. Staff was friendly and rooms were clean.

The hotel doesn’t have a lot of extra amenities - it was totally fine with us but if one is looking for included breakfast, gym, pool, etc. this is not the right place.

The Architect is extremely good value for money. The location is excellent for access to the Mall and museums, as well as to all the restaurants on 14th St. Room was very clean and nicely decorated. Loved the rain shower. We were in town for a graduation and other hotels were charging a fortune; the Architect came through with a great stay at a reasonable price. Great coffee at Blue Bottle half a block up the street.

    Central location for city break
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple

    1. Our room was pretty quirky, being on the corner of the building and therefore strangely laid out, e.g. the wardrobe was so shallow that clothes hangers had to be angled in order to close the door. Therefore fine for a short city break, but not ideal for longer stays given limited room and storage space. 2. There was an extremely loud bathroom fan, which always came on when you turned on the light - not ideal if you need to visit in the middle of the night without disturbing your partner. 3. Upon entering the hotel, it would have been helpful to have a sign pointing to the reception area on the right hand side, as it wasn't immediately obvious (especially to very tired travellers).

We chose this hotel mainly due to its location within easy walking distance of the White House and multiple Metrorail stations (McPherson Square runs directly to Dulles on the Silver Line), plus nearby restaurants and coffee shops within a short walk (we recommend happy hour at Dauphine's!). No accommodation in DC is cheap - this is a no frills place, but it is clean and centrally located. There was some traffic noise given that the hotel is at an intersection, but not enough to keep us from a good night's sleep. Room was clean and comfortable, with spacious bathroom and drencher shower head. Window shutters were effective at blocking out most of the light as our room was on a higher floor. WiFi was free and worked well. Appreciated the multiple USB charging ports on both sides of the bed. There are 2 elevators to reach the upper floors. The hotel will store your luggage for you until 18.00 on the date of your departure (as long as there are no valuables being left).

No tea/coffee facilities in the room, had to go down 8 floors to make one. The staff did not replenish the hot water, milk substitute or ice. When my wife asked for these things the staff looked like it was a chore.

Noise from the street was inescapable. Lobby coffee was horrid. Staff was unfriendly and quite cold. No service issues, just aloof. The bathroom fan was so loud it made spending time in the restroom uncomfortable.

A great staff, a clean but basic room, close to everything

This is a fairly bare bones hotel. A nice room. A lobby with basic coffee, hot water and a few tea bags. A noisy but efficient air conditioner. None of the extra amenities, such as. a chest of drawers or a fridge or coffee pot in the room. A basic accomodation made much more inviting by a caring front desk staff.

The front desk staff went out of their way to be friendly and very very helpful. They could not have been nicer, and this gave a very favorable impression of the hotel. The room was nicely furnished and was refurbished in the recent past with good lighting and outlets and a very nice bathroom. Shampoo, conditioner and towels were supplied, as was a hair dryer. Very good location, close to the White House and museums, and a block from a Metro stop.

The hotel is old without restaurant or bar. The room was rather small. There are some stairs to the reception desk and elevators, and the luggage should be handled manually without any help

Excellent location in the downtown to visit the main pints of interest. Perfect for tourism and going to the hotel just to sleep. Room very clean and bathroom is quite good.

noise. i was placed close to the elevator and beside the main streets. i could hear every ding of the elevator and noise from the street. the shutters couldnt hide the light from outside. no curtain to cover the windows. im used to a very quiet very dark bedroom, so i have to buy ear plugs and wear eye cover- i got to sleep. also, one switch for the bathroom lights and the fan vent. fan vent was loud. very annoying. i dont need the fan vent everytime i use the bathroom. please separate the vent and light switch.

it was lovely! affordable for its location (close to white house). old building, well preserved. Shin, the receptionist, was very helpful, respectful, always smiling. she was awesome. bathroom was spacious. love the shower head!

Quality of the bed. Everything you turned the wood sounded like it would break. We slept opposite to the elevator so we heard all the people talking while they were waiting for the elevator. Every ding of the elevator announcing he was at our floor.

Location is the best going for it

The entrance lobby has a flight of stairs which lead to reception/elevators and there's no one at hand to help with heavy luggage. This is the downtown part of the city and if you arrive on a weekend many restaurants and eateries are closed, otherwise there's a good selection within walking distance. Room was not cleaned in time one day even though it was 3 PM by the time we made it back. The safe box was not working, the only employee around (at reception) did what he could to help but ultimately had to place a request for maintenance the next day which never happened.

The best thing going for this place is its location. It's within walking distance to a couple of subway stations that made access to the city, hotel, attractions, and airport easy. Subways in Washington are some of the best in the country. The rooms are small and the decor and furnishing is early 20th century (think 1920's) which lends a "classy" but a bit passé aspect to the place. The bed was comfortable and the views to the street are decent. Bathrooms have been renovated and upgraded, and roomy. Within walking distance to museums and attractions.
