Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaBefore Covid, they used to serve coffee in the living room. As we get up early it was so nice.

United KingdomThey are very poor at communicating. They send several text messages, but don’t actually reply when you ask them questions in response. I am still waiting to hear if they have found an item I left in the room - no reply !
Quiet and clean.

United KingdomThe windows were very narrow, giving very little natural light. Accross the road was a building site, and due to poor insulation, it was very noisy inside the room with the windows closed. No breakfast on site and the café opposite the road was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we had to walk half a mile looking for breakfast!. The coffee machine inside was antiquated. Even their Spa facilities were closer on Mondays and Tuesdays! The reception staff was frequently absent from the front desk leaving a note to call them if needed.. We were very disappointed, definitely not of a 5* standard!!.. we stayed in 3* hotels of a much better standard.
The bathroom was okay and the bed was comfortable.

United States of AmericaWe asked for a quiet room and they put us upstairs right next to the heat pump exchangers on the roof. They cycled on and off all night and were very loud. We had a horrible night's sleep.

United States of AmericaLighting was dim. Only one chair for the two of us. No phone. Difficult to contact the front desk. Had to text them. One light needed to be unplugged to turn off. Twenty minute walk to Old Port down hill then up & back to hotel. Need to be able to walk this which we could. No real amenities other than WiFi. TV was clearly dated and not real bright. Bathroom light was dim. Advertising was mid-leading.
It was quiet. Parking was free. Kayla was very nice.

United States of AmericaThere is a restaurant right underneath our room and a club next door. We were kept awake well into the night each night of our stay by the loud music we couldn’t drown out. Not the hotel’s fault, but it will keep us from returning.
The staff were fantastic, and the hotel was beautiful! Full of personal touches.

United States of AmericaThe staff were indifferent to the needs of older people as to luggage and breakfast options. The hotel is very expensive and serves no breakfast. 5he only suggestion from staff was the place across the street where every morning a long line of people cued up to eat outside. The second day it was pouring! I expected much better service and information given the earlier texts and emails and the cost of the room. For the last two days the internet didn’t work well. It was frustrating. !
It’s a lovely old building in a lovely part of Portland. We enjoyed walking, etc. we also enjoyed our private deck where we ate several times.

United States of AmericaSee above.
Portland hotels are expensive not sure why - so this is at least less expensive (though I still wouldn’t class as inexpensive). But it’s not really a hotel in all honesty. More like a B and B without the breakfast. No one at desk at night after 10 or maybe 11 (it was 10 on one of our nights) and those that are on duty though v pleasant can be challenged by simple requests (eg a wine and beer glass please or what’s up with the wi fi?). Wi fi didnt function for our two days. No Spa because of Covid. We had an attic room - fairly bare, a small kettle and tiny fridge but no teabags or coffee bags or creamers. For a “boutique” hotel these are low price high yield additions to a room. A card with instructions for the rather complicated light switches and cooling / heating would be useful too. The downstairs foyer sitting room is small. Certainly not many guests could avail at one time. Parking is good - right beside hotel and free.

United States of AmericaI didn’t like the color bulb for our bedroom overhead light. It was more of a cold light and I just prefer a warm light. The bedside lights were warm though.
It’s a beautiful converted mansion! Everything was nice and clean and the products in the room are thoughtfully placed.

United States of AmericaWe felt it was definitely not worth the price. We’ve stayed at the Savoy hotel in London the Trump Plaza in New York, just to name a few and do not think the cost of the room at the Francis was anywhere near the value. The room had no warmth to it at all. It was very simple. it should of had a king size bed in it. I laid down on the bed and could not believe my eyes, I saw dust around the moldings, around the window, just everywhere. Nothing that a feather duster or a vacuum with a hose would not fix. it didn’t even have a microwave. We needed some information and directions, however there was no one at the desk. We had to e-mail twice before someone came. I will say the building and furnishings were very nice in the lobby. There was a lovely fireplace in a sitting room in the lobby but that’s where it ended. Our trip was a ten day trip. This hotel was the biggest disappointment based on the price of the other five hotels we stayed at.
The exterior of the building and the lobby.
