Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaFor the price, no tv in room, no fridge. Shower looked a little icky on floor but maybe just worn. Band was on a little late and made it hard to fall asleep. Also, room was very very hot and I couldn’t adjust the temp.
Location is great. Cool building.

United States of AmericaThe size of the room leaves A LOT to be desired. For the price that was paid, I would like a room that was larger than a shoe box.
The location is central to everything. It was great for that purpose.

United States of AmericaFor me, the water temperature setting in the shower needed to be more responsive. The space itself is small, and I could not get the hot water temperature reduced to a slightly cooler level quickly enough.
The breakfast was excellent—all of the breakfast food I look for.

United States of AmericaMy only real complaint is the parking scenario… An event was happening at the Inn the night of my stay so the small lot was full. I parked my car on the street as recommended and it was totaled by a drunk driver! Not the inn’s fault per-say but keep it in mind.
The Inn itself is great, in a cute spot in CT. Checks all of the rustic boxes and is a great spot for a nice weekend getaway.

United States of AmericaThe parking across the street and having to carry luggage up the stairs to the far end of the hotel. We did it, but it can be challenging for a couple in their mid 70’s.

NetherlandsSize of bathroom in my room was small and there was hardly any cupboard or luggage space in the room. For a longer stay than a single night it would have been very difficult.
Beautiful historic property and great restaurant. Lots of attention to detail and period furnishing maintaining the hotel’s historic New England heritage.

United States of AmericaBreakfast was ok but a little disappointing. For the price of the room, they could try a little harder to provide more options, especially for guests who want low or no carb/protein. The day of our stay there was no fresh fruit at breakfast which was something we were looking forward to.
Loved the location! Rooms are so nice and clean, attached bathroom was small but modern and spotless. The entire inn is beautiful!

United States of AmericaThe bed in our room was very uncomfortable but I feel that most overnight places may have that issue. For the most Part it was very clean except for the air vents on the ceiling. I only happen to notice because of my dust allergy.
I absolutely loved the aesthetic! The staff was amazing! The continental breakfast was nice. It was a homey feeling :)

United States of AmericaI said I liked the long history of the inn – however, Essex is a charming town with gorgeous harbor the really high bed may have been historically correct, but was still a pain for the height-challenged (I’m 5’2”). They did readily supply a 2-step thing upon request, but it was still inconvenient. Again, historically, an elevator might be anachronistic, but it would be convenient to have one (there are rooms on 3 floors; we were on the 2nd).
I love the historic aspect of this lovely inn. Plus it’s barely a block walk to the beautiful harbor and Connecticut River Museum. Just west of the inn was a little park with stunning views of an inlet. The inn has very nice restaurants, and there are several other good restaurants within a short walk. We didn’t have a car, so the walking-distance location was a huge plus for us. Also, the bathroom was modern and spotless. The included breakfast was ample, though nothing special, except that the coffee was excellent.

United States of AmericaMusic was loud, we moved to a building across the street because first room was above parking lot AND exit driveway (we had asked and we’re assured we’d have a quiet location). We had to PAY for upgrade and if possible, room location was louder as it was closer to the pub and pub door was open and music was loud (thankfully only til 11pm).
Very cool OLD historic buildings. Friendly staff. Rooms were appointed nicely. Beds were comfortable.
