Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaLocation…. A good and a bad I guess. As other reviewers stated — a large increase of homelessness in Portland which is outside of the hotels control. There were a lot, A LOT of flies outdoors which made their way into the lobby. Our hotel room was on the corner of the street so it was VERY loud until 2-3 AM some nights which made it hard to sleep soundly.
Property looks just like the pictures. Really Modern with a cool rooftop restaurant (did not visit) and speakeasy (did visit and drinks were decently priced and yummy). Location was everything — close to really popular restaurants and the waterfront. Easy for us to use public transportation (did not use Uber/lyft once). Right across from the gas station so easy for us to get water and snacks. People say room size was small but it was perfect for us (especially since we were only there for the weekend). The open shower concept was indeed annoying but manageable.

United States of Americagot charged for hourly parking overnight instead of as overnight guest. the rate overnight is 55 plus 15 in technology fees that we didn't know about-so $70 for parking overnight. also-getting our money back and rate adjusted was a pain in the butt.

United States of Americaour room was super teeny tiny which we knew, but didn’t really realize how small it would be until we went into it. i would stay in a bigger room next time but not sure it would be worth the higher price.
the lobby and restaurant area is very stylishly decorated, and feels cozy. the bathroom in our room was beautiful and the body products and soaps all smell incredible.

United States of AmericaWe loved the feel of this place. The staff was excellent, decor was cozy and warm. The only thing I would note is how tiny the room was. We didn’t necessarily mind but it was a bit of a shock. Other than that, we loved it.

United KingdomStylish with friendly staff, easy to get to, dog friendly.
The Hoxton is a gorgeous hotel, the staff were very friendly and the lobby/bar were lovely. My room was small, which is what I booked so I didn’t mind that, but it wasn’t very accessible and I would have preferred if the cups, kettle etc were kept on a shelf higher up rather than down on floor level. I personally just found this difficult to access due to mobility issues. Also more options for breakfast bah would be great! Mine didn’t arrive, but when I called down for it the staff brought me one immediately. The service was great but when I opened the bag it only had an apple in it.

CanadaWe didn’t stay for breakfast-had to leave very early. The parking garage was a mystery. The valet told me it was on a specific side of the block but I could not find it! Or anywhere on the block. Very strange. I ended up just parking in the municipal parking lot nearby.

United States of AmericaIt seemed from the info that Lovely Rita was a full service restaurant and we were surprised that it is no longer open. The coffee bar was fine but one of our two mornings, it was closed for 20 minutes during prime coffee needing time. Also, (not the hotel's fault) the area doesn't feel safe for walking at night. I hadn't been to Portland for a couple of years and was unprepared for how much downtown has changed. Also, they need some streaming channels on the TV.
Breakfast was very good. As was a fabulous dinner at Tope. Our room was nice and fairly quiet, with an extremely comfortable bed. The staff was friendly and helpful, whether at the front desk, lobby bar or restaurant. I got the impression that everyone really enjoys working there. We have stayed at the Hoxton in downtown LA, which we also really enjoyed.

United States of AmericaNo complaints.
Amazing location and super chic lobby. Rooms were clean and comfortable although very small, no microwave but it did have a fridge so I won’t complain too much. The bathrooms are small but adequate, and the showers are amazing.

United KingdomSadly ( and this isn’t any fault of the hotel) the homelessness situation Downtown is just so upsetting and the hotel is situated in a particularly bad area. It felt quite dangerous to go out with the children particularly at night. It was very disturbing to see how desperate the situation has got and we were encouraged to see that the hotel were running a few things to support homelessness. We really hope that the owners of the Hoxton hotel group try to push the local government / councillors to urge some immediate action to help these poor people. We had heard that Portland and many American cities had a big problem but to see it first hand was very distressing.
The hotel is beautifully designed and staff very very friendly and helpful.
