Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsThe rooms are not set up for good sleep: AC is way too loud & cold, you cannot open the windows/ no fresh air, hallway is very brightwaking you up each time someone enters and you're too close to others/ crammed (you touch each others feet by accident). There's no space for luggage and they have no lockers! How on earth can a hostel have no lockers, that's a basic need so please improve that.
Great vibe here, big bathrooms and huge common room & kitchen which were very modern. Great idea with the groupchat here and they also offer free activities albeit with an odd booking system.

United States of AmericaI was a solo traveler, so the place is really far from anything (supermarket, beaches, ...), public transport is very poor there and if you don't have a car it's difficult to go anywhere. I was trusting to go places with the free excursions they had but either they were full or cancelled, so I couldn't do any with them. Luckily I made a friend with a car! Also the first bed was super noisy and I couldn't move in the whole night so as not to wake people up. On a good note, I notified them and change me to another bed, and although it wasn't very comfortable still, at least it didn't make much noise.
I loved the staff, the space in cupboards and fridge to keep food and pancakes in the morning. Also, I had a problem with the bed and they change me to another one next day.

United States of AmericaMy main issue with the hostel is the bathroom situation. There are 6 private bathrooms each with a toilet, sink, and shower, so if anyone is using one of those things, they prevent someone from using the others. Every morning and every evening people will wait with their things in the hallways to take a shower. The code locks on the doors are obnoxiously loud and wake people up in the room. The rooms are pretty cramped, the beds are close together, and there are very few places to put things close to your bed. The parking situation is pretty rough: there are a few parking spots you can pay for, but it's pretty limited, otherwise you will have to park in the 2-hour street parking (only enforced between 8 am and 6 pm). So you either need to be away from the hostel for those hours or go move your car every 2 hours. That being said, I always found a spot pretty close to the hostel. There are quite a few homeless people around, which unfortunately is the norm for Maui. I never felt in danger, but I would not leave anything in your car.
The rooms and the bathrooms are kept very clean. Each bathroom is decorated a bit differently. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The reception desk is open 24-hours. Linens, blankets, towels, shampoo/conditioner, and soap are all provided. The location is in the centre of Maui not far from a few restaurants. The scheduled activities are a great way to meet people and are free (besides a suggested tip). The doors use codes which can prevent you from being locked out.

United States of AmericaI realize its run by volunteers but there were a lot of questions that could not be answered so maybe just a little more training for the people running the front desk. and big people need big ladders for the bunk beds!!
When I finally arrived I walked up to the door and they were singing Take me home West Virginia by John Denver...I am from WV so it made me feel very comfortable and excited to come in! It is an amazing hostel, this was my firtst time in one. My key code never worked for the front door so that was very frustrating since people (I wasn't the only one) were not able to get in until someone happened to come out. The room was fine although Im a big girl with a knee injury so climbing on a top bunk was very inconvenient. the ladder could be a little bigger since we are adults not tiny kiddos. all the amenities they offered were amazing I am sorry I did not have the time to hang out more and meet more people. It was an awesome overall experience and I hope I can try again someday

United States of AmericaIt was small and just missing a few things like a little bench to put your stuff on. A place for your towels and clothes. In the shower more space for your stuff to put down like a bench.
It was a good place for one night. I had a private room for 2 persons. It was good!

CanadaThe rooms themselves are a tad hit or miss, we had two bunks in a four bunk room. Can be noisy and temperature is highly variable based on usage of the fan or AC - I found it rather cold both nights. They only give you a small sheet and a pillow that doesn't really stack up to other accommodations on the island. For a tall person the bunks will be too small for you, I slept in a curl for our stay there.
Really enjoyed the communal aspects of the hostel, they do have free pancake breakfast and the daily scheduled trip. We didn't actually join a scheduled trip but the big open lobby allowed for easy group making. The price of the hostel is quite good in comparison to the other options on the island. Also quite close to a good selection of food and necessities. Parking is relatively easy to find.

GermanyAlthough the trips are fun and free there are limited spots. The van can only take up to 14 people and popular activities like the Road to Hanā are very difficult to get on. Often other people staying at Howzit will have a car and share a ride. But keep in mind that in the price you pay for the hostel an activity is not guaranteed.
Really nice and well equipped kitchen as well as a great common area (inside and backyard). There are quite a few individual bathrooms so waiting times are limited. There is also a female only bathroom. The hostel offers great activities that are included in the price and make it really fun to explore the island. They also offer fun evening activities like beer pong or barbecues. If you‘re looking for a very quite hostel this one probably isn‘t for you.
