To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

United States of AmericaInside (cont'd) Tried to use the vent to prevent smoke in the kitchen, but the microwave didn't work either. Told the host about some of the issues above and that all the issues combined were unacceptable. We were frustrated and grossed over all the dirty things and lack of attention to the unit. The host insisted that the smell was “freon”, but we know it was not freon. He added that he had baking soda in it to help with the smell, though. He seemed to know that the microwave wasn’t working and explained that’s why there was another. Host said he would have someone bring hand soap & said we could go to the nearby shopping center to buy sheets and he would reimburse us. He added that “very much appreciated the feedback this week helpme to grow in the right way.” My family grew increasingly frustrated with all the issues, dirtiness, and overall condition of the property. Messaged the host and informed him that the conditions were unacceptable. Said we were leaving and asked for consideration of a refund for the next night since we just didn’t feel comfortable there. His tone then changed & he said he had video & photos of the property while it was being cleaned before we arrived, and he saw no stained sheets. Basically, he accused us of lying. He insisted that the price was non-refundable and that he would bring sheets. He also sent pictures to prove there was one small kitchen towel and 3 cups in a drawer. I let him know that we left the property. He then messages with saying he had sheets now, etc. I asked again for a refund for the second night since we left before noon. He refused and just insisted his listing complied with accommodation requirements of the website. If you want to be bribed for a good review, asked to only use part of the rental, spend time on vacation troubleshooting issues, worrying about how clean things are, or finding workarounds, this is the right property. Otherwise, I would find different accommodations in the area.
This property does NOT live up to the pictures in looks or function. For $340 night, we expected more and ended up spending a stressful couple of days dealing with this host. Booked it last minute due to plan changes in South FL and were relieved that the host messaged promptly and offered early check-in. Shortly before our arrival the host messaged asking that since we only had 4 people in our party, that we please only use 2 bedrooms and bathrooms, and this would help them with cleaning (though a cleaning fee is charged). Minutes later, I received a message offering $25 refund for a 5-star rating. That should have been a red flag. Waterfront- the “villa” is at the end of one of the canals, so water is stagnant and dirty. The view across the way is of a neighbor’s unsightly yard that is full of junk. It was not relaxing to sit in the yard where the furniture was also stained/dirty. While it is mowed, the yard is not kept as neatly as one would expect. Would not want to sit out for long or to have a meal out there. Spa- No spa/jacuzzi available. There is a deep and big concrete tub in one of the bathrooms with a regular faucet and a dirty/stained bath pillow. That, however, is neither a spa nor a hot tub. Outside/street- Surrounded by gas stations and shopping nearby, but not a very inviting area nor an area to walk around. The property is located a couple of blocks from the highway on a very busy road so be careful when parking in and out. At least, you don’t really hear much inside. That was okay. Inside- The house looked like the pictures on the listing. Stains on the sofa and some shoddy workmanship on doors that didn't hang well/close completely. Tripped on extension cord where TV was plugged. 3 refrigerators because one doesn’t make ice- putrid smell coming out of one. Showers took about 10 mins in one of the bathrooms. No or very little soap in some of the bathrooms.
