Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

EstoniaNo warm water at all (even if someone tells you to wait for it). Very noisy at night due to birds and frogs in the garden (and due to the fact that one of the windows cannot be closed). On some mornings, coffee wasn't available - wasn't brewed properly.
We liked the garden, the Polynesian-style interior, the staff, the breakfast, the location.

United States of AmericaThe photos provided by the property didn’t match the room we stayed in; the room we were in was spacious but did sway a bit at night. Bedding was clean but the room was in need of a deep clean (carpets, windows, bathroom). WiFi does not work in the rooms.
The beds were comfortable and the fan was powerful. We also enjoyed the lobby cats. Parking was free and the room had a fridge. Felt safe leaving our stuff here while exploring Hilo.

JapanNo blackout curtains and the internal window was covered just by a carpet (so, not much privacy). Not a problem for us, but be aware of a lot of birds noise during the night.
Good cheap option (for Hawaii average). It was all written in the description. So, not surprises.

United States of AmericaI didn’t like that the handle to our room for the night was broken, no hot water at all. I also didn’t like the fact that the shower curtain was not in place, which btw, I couldn’t put back so it was left. The parking needs to be a little more convenient for people who are spending their hardworking money to have a staycation.
I like the seclusion.

United States of AmericaThe rooms need to be clean deeply since there's a lot of dirt that hasn't been cleaned up in a while! I think that the hotel needs a lot of renovation. It needs a whole new modern look outside and in the rooms... also, the breakfast menu is not bad but it could be better. Overall the hotel wasn't bad but it can be a lot better.
The location and the peaceful area.

United States of AmericaThe images of the hotel are miss-leading. Couldn’t find a microwave, the bathroom was primitive. Not many luxurious.
It’s a roof over your head, with essentials. Affordable, very friendly staff and environment.

United States of AmericaBreakfast was basic, coffee. fruit, and other breads and satisfying. The bed was comfortable and the surroundings very pleasant. For Hawaii and Hilo, it was economical for a place to stay without busting the budget.

United States of AmericaI did not like the fact that they did not have any cream for the coffee or sugar. I did not like the fact that they did not have a TV and that it took 30 minutes for my water to become warm enough for me to take a shower. It never got hot it was only warm. I did not like that
The staff was very kind. Great customer service skills. The environment is nice.. I love all the trees and the ocean view during the day. It was very laid back and comfortable

United States of AmericaThe staff (other than the amazing contractor Cody) were rude and unhelpful. I am from the islands and can honestly say this was truly not the aloha spirit. I get that being short staffed is hard, but this went well above having a bad day. If not for the staff, I would have rated this much higher. Friendly service and a great breakfast would have totally lifted this experience.
Wild ginger hotel is rustic, but the building is charming and nestled into lush greens which gives it a great ambiance. They are doing a lot of renovations which I think will help. The place certainly has a lot of potential.

United States of AmericaThey warned that it is not a luxury hotel - I just didn't realized that AC, for example, is a luxury for Hawaii. Very, very basic facilities (although perhaps may differ between rooms). But if you are not bothered by rust, peeling paint - it may be a decent value overall.
Some Hawaiian decor and impression that you live in the middle of rain forest - while very close to the center of Hilo.

Old Hawaii feel, tin roofs, breadfruit tree and ginger in the garden. Things are apparently being upgraded on an ongoing basis.

United KingdomHotel looked like it was falling down in places, it is in need of renovation. There was not hot water or water pressure in the first room, they did move me to another which was better.
The property was unique, quite old but interesting . The majority of the staff were helpful.
