Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

South AfricaBeing so close to the highway. It does mean noise from trucks can be heard at times.
Welcoming owners and managers. Great location, the bird life is abundant, the river view is so calming and the hearty breakfast is top class. They also arrange activities for you that they operate or another provider operates.

South AfricaWe liked everything
The location next to the river is excellent and Addo is just a short drive away. The view from our room was stunning and the breakfast a very nice bonus. The hosts are friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and Addo.

The pictures on Booking.com are nothing like the accommodation. It was good, but not as good as I had hoped.

South AfricaPerhaps, since the lodge caters for tourists and it is in a small town, investing in a proper coffee machine would be great. The shower was beautiful and catered well for people with mobility issues, but the flight of stairs to get to the unit made that feature superfluous. The beds only had blankets which is a bit 'old fashioned'
The bathroom was lovely. The view of the Sunday's river, while having breakfast, was superb. The staff were friendly.

BelgiumNot so much diner establishments in the area. Taste of Africa was ok.
Breakfast was lovely, especially with all the little jars of jam each table gets. Also the warm baked bread and the fresh orange juice was a nice extra. Location was superb as the south entrance to Addo Elephant park was just 10 min away.

United KingdomFabulous location with breakfast overlooking the Sundays River. Lovely cooked breakfast with fresh bread. The trip into Addo organised by Dungbeetle River Lodge was also excellent and our guide was very informative and able to get us to all the right spots to see as many animals as possible.

The cottage is spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. Beautiful view from the deck, sunroom and front bedroom. The cottage is exceptionally clean(cleaned daily)and clean towels provided daily. It would have been nice if the cottage had an oven but other than that the kitchen is adequately equipped. We had amazing excursions with the Lodge, a morning game drive and a sundowner boat cruise. With both, our guides Christo and Beau, were fantastic!!!! We highly recommend the Lodge and their excursions and we'll be back!!!

United KingdomNothing. We all felt that they could ‘sell’ the local tours more positively especially on arrival. It somewhat relied on us asking and reading about them. We appreciate it is a fine line between being pushy and informative.
It is very stylish but functional. Lots of thought has gone into the furnishings and room features. The bedroom had a lovely balcony and riverside view. We also loved the local pub, 5 mins down the road that was safe to walk to- Grunters- great value and a very welcoming landlord. And we can highly recommend the river cruise with Beau who did a fantastic dune walk with us.

United KingdomFelt a little uneasy in the location with No one on site after office hours ( although to be fair there was a number to call should there be a problem and the person only five minutes away )
Leona runs a very well organised place . Wonderful breakfasts with homemade bread , selection of jams and marmalades , and nicely cooked breakfast ( with local sausage ) Enjoyed the river views and the little courtyard with wonderful weaver birds nesting in the trees

South AfricaIt was all good! We found nothing to improve!
View was incredible and it was a peaceful location. Attention to detail! Everywhere, you can see their eye for every last detail: from the accommodation to the lounge to the gardens and the checkin process, the breakfast... it was all very purposefully arranged and managed. You will not find a better location in the Addo area. It was literally 3 minutes from the south gate of Addo. Further, their guide service into the park was great as well. They even provided (the highest quality) binoculars! This is our 3rd "game drive" vacation in the past 6 years in SA and this was the first to provide binoculars.
