Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Nothing! My stay was perfect, thank you!
The host (Johannes) was able to accommodate me last minute deciding to arrive early which was amazing and allowed me a day of exploring without luggage. Location is a short walk from a beautiful coastal hiking trail and beaches to explore and Johannes was so helpful with suggestions for where to go and directions on how to get there. The surrounding area feels very safe, as a solo female traveller, I felt comfortable walking places even after dark. I was offered a free room upgrade as I was the only guest for the night. The room was bright and clean and the whole bnb was decorated and felt homey. The breakfast in the morning was filling and made by Johannes himself. Johannes was also able to arrange a shuttle to take me to my next destination. I’ve been staying in hostels so this was a very nice change and honestly the best sleep I’ve had since arriving in SA! Thank you!

We were offered an upgrade on the room at no extra cost, we always had hot water for shower/coffee and some backup power during loadshedding. Johannes went out of his way to make our stay great, thank you so much for all the advise on which places to visit and roads to make use of. Thank you

Room wasn't spacious but I'm 2m tall, so that's kind of expected :D
A cozy place with a wonderful host! It was a big pleasure talking to Johannes! He gave us lots of advise and useful information on surrounding area and walked us to the best beach in Gansbaai and shared a glass of Amarulo during a nice conversation in the evening! Special thanks for a huge discount on Shark Cage Diving tour! In the morning we had a very lovely breakfast and left the property with the most positive mood possible! Thank you, Johannes! We'll definitely come back to your B&B!

Very nice room with everything you may need and more pillows anyone could possibly ever need :D, little but clean and complete bathroom with nice and hot shower, great common rooms with couches and even more pillows, good breakfast "a la carte" to minimize waste of food and get exactly what you like, all managed by an extremly friendly and helpfull host with great trips for your further trip.

Nothing. This was a wonderful place to stay
Most of the places you stay on a trip are pleasant but forgettable. This hostel was memorable for it's quirkiness and interesting décor, but mostly for the friendliness and helpfulness of the host, Johannes, who is a generous and talkative man, who, it's clear, wants you to be comfortable and enjoy your stay.
