Located just 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya features accommodation in Tanabe with access to an open-air bath, a bar, as well as a housekeeping service. This 2-star ryokan offers a spa experience, with its hot spring bath and public bath. The ryokan provides rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi.

The Japanese breakfast was really amazing. This Sumiya has not been renovated since the 70s, however, it doesn't matter because ithe decor added lots of charm and it is certainly a quirky place. I will definitely stay again and recommend others do too as long as you aren't super fussy because it is older style, but for the price that is what you would expect. It is clean and the owners are happy and warm and friendly.

KAMENOI HOTEL Kii-Tanabe offers a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 3 km of Kozan-ji Temple and 3.4 km of Tokei Shrine. Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a lift and free shuttle service, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The ryokan has family rooms as well as facilities for disabled guests.

It’s an old hotel so don’t expect anything modern but in typical Japanese fashion the service is impeccable and they give you a lot of food for free. Also every room is oceanfront. I went there because I was doing the Kumano Kodo trail which is close.

Great hotel in a sleepy little town with a good breakfast. Across the road from a Yakitori restaurant and a cosy little bar (Tramp Bar). We did have some trouble finding the hotel as the address on booking.com mapped to a street a few blocks away. Look for the tall white building with the words ‘Bay Hotel’ on the top.

Super close to the lovely beach. We upgraded to an ocean view room on a high floor - not realizing at the the time that that allowed access to the rooftop onsen. it was a highlight. Breakfast and dinner buffets we’re extensive and delicious.

Set in Shirahama, within 200 metres of Shirahama Beach and 1.2 km of Ezura Beach, Shirahama no Yado Daigo offers free WiFi throughout the property. The property is around 2 km from Shirahama Art Museum, 2.1 km from Shirahama Aquarium Kyoto University and 2.7 km from Kishu Museum of Art. The ryokan features family rooms.

This place has a 9.1 rating and most reviews seem too good to be true but trust me on this, this place is THAT good. And I would rate this hotel a 100 out of 10 if I can, the high rating is truly deserved. The staff is very kind and welcoming. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the futon is comfortable. The location is great, there are many food places nearby, the beach is just a few minutes walk away (you can even see it from your room depending on where you are placed), and the bus stop which will take you to the station or most places around Shirahama is very near.

The air-conditioned rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. A TV, fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags are included in each. Japanese Yukata robes are provided for all guests and some rooms come with a foot bath or a private open-air bath.

The place has _vibes_. Don't go if you expect a pristine newly renovated spa, but go if you want the best onsen I've seen in a hotel with some great vibes and an old skool Japanese feel. Do go. The private onsen room is worth it, and the hotel Is right across the street to the beach, too.

Traditional style guest house with rooms with screen walls, tatami mats and futons. Two guest rooms at the front of the building, meaning it was a little noisy at night as right on the access road/ pathway. Close to the train station and beach area. Nice restaurants in the local area, we had an excellent meal. Reasonable price. Shared lounge, kitchen area and bathroom, all in good working order and clean.

The room was comfortable, warm and well sized. It was a traditional Japanese room with sliding doors, tatami floors and a futon bed. The host, Ike, and his wife prepared the most amazing dinner for us and kindly catered to me being vegetarian. The next day I also had a tasty breakfast and bento box lunch prepared for me which set me up well for my hike. The host was polite and helpful. It was enjoyable having a communal dinner with the other guests and made for a lovely atmosphere.

Delightful hosts, lovely space. Comfy futon beds on tatami mat floors. Shared bathroom. Only one possible set of neighbours in the adjacent room. (Earplugs are available for purchase if needed.) We loved the chiffon cakes for breakfast. Highly recommend.

Loved the traditional tatami mats and futon on the floor with beautiful lantern lights in the room, and then a seperate area with a couch and kitchenette - all in the cutest little village with an amazing view! Simon was so helpful with information about the Kumano Kodo. He helped me figure out a new plan for my hike the next day to work around the weather. He picked me up from Tanabe and dropped me at the trailhead the next morning.

River view, spacious room, well equipped. the property has own indoor hot springs as well as access to outdoor natural onsen. It's amazing experience to bath in one of those. Beuatiful natural surroundings. Property has parking. There was just one restaurant in village, but the dinners and breakfast can be also prepared by property hosts. We had dinner and we got huge portions and everything was delishious, also vegan friendly. the property is only 10-15mins drive from Honguncho Hongu (with more restaurants and supermarket)

It was my fors stay in traditional Japanese ryokan and it was good. The staff was very pleasant and kind. They managed to prepare breakfast for us in the early morning. Everything was smooth and nice. There is also public onsen right near hotel. Moreover, you can even dig your own onsen near the river

Very nice owner. Good location close to the bus stop. Genuine Japanese experience of staying in Ryokan, among others with sleeping on the tatami. Digging own onsen at a river side is amazing. Food needs to ordered earlier than on arrival.
