Nice is a nice :) location - a mix of hills with sea. Nice old city, nice shopping locations. You need more than 1 day, but, I'd say not more than 3. I'd add to the popular recommendations the open market(near the sea) during the mornings - you can buy lot of interesting things + much cheaper - including also pastries.

Absolutely loved Nice! Beautiful coastal city with plethora of wonderful restaurants shops, and daily open market. Nice was our homebase for exploring the other towns as the public transport within Nice and to the other towns were unmatched. WE explored Nice on the first day and then went to Cannes and Antibes the 2nd day and Montecarlo on the 3rd day. Ideal place to look around Cote d'azur. I booked the train ticket on trainline (using my app) and did not have to wait in the queue or try to translate from french to english. We are not beach people but we loved the location and warm weather, offering the possibility of sitting on the beach to enjoy the view. The weather was excellent. We loved the gardens and the one at Villa Ephrussi is a must! There were museums to visit and plenty of restaurants with excellent variety between local food and others such as sushi, vegetarian and also supermarkets and shops. La Pilha Leva is a best location to try local specialities. Transportation is easy and cheap. Nice is an excellent base to visit other areas such as Villefranche, Eze, Monaco, and Menton. Lots of excellent walks; the coastal ath from Nice to Villefranche is dramatic and beautiful. We walked up the hill to Cimiez and Cascaide de Gairut. Lots of interesting Belle Epoque architecture and history. It's a lovely place for a holiday.
