Getting around can be very tricky but with free street maps and google and little shoe leather, very friendly, helpful locals helps the day flow. More expensive that other Dutch cities but well worth the visit for the the history, architecture and museums and if you want to get away from the cultural side pop along to the Heineken Experience have a couple of beers and chill

Transportation options are excellent. Once you get adjusted to the thousands of bicycles everywhere and the hazards of the bike lanes it is easy to get around. dirty city, rude and insolent people, lots of marijuana-tanned and drunk youth, a lot of garbage on the streets and a lot of homeless people collecting cans and plastic bottles, lots of old buildings perfect for sightseeing but only for retirees and the elderly, there is nothing interesting in Amsterdam, the central station and Schiphol airport are also terribly dirty and littered! I do not recommend traveling to Amsterdam, it is better to go to The Hague by the sea, where it is very clean, there is a beautiful central station, the sea, new buildings and nice people!
