The Best Culture and Nightlife this Side of a Canal

Jump on your city bike or hop on a canal boat and admire Amsterdam, the Venice of the North! The beautiful city houses, romantic bridges, iconic canals and street cafés create its unique atmosphere and give you an ultimate taste of its fascinating past.

Famous for its museums, most important of which are located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam offers you a chance to see unforgettable masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan and more. The Anne Frank House is a sobering reminder of the city’s more recent history. After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.

The medieval Old Center with the always busy Dam Square and the tempting Red Lights District is the most visited part of Amsterdam. Make sure to stop at Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, homes to the best nightlife venues.

Shop till you drop at Amsterdam’s most luxury shopping street, PC Hooftstraat, the most popular street market at Albert Cuyp or in the fancy design shops of the Jordaan district. Famous pancakes and frites with mayonnaise are a must-try! The more adventurous traveler might want to try the pickled herring, followed closely by a local beer.

All these attractions are just a short train ride from the Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Whether you want to stay at a cozy hotel on a canal, a modern apartment in a quiet part of the city or a room in the center of everything, Booking.com has a perfect accommodation for your Amsterdam vacation.

There are two types of people who go to Amsterdam.

There are two types of people who go to Amsterdam. There are party people who want to get stoned and have fun in bars and there are people who are interested in the historical architecture and scenery. We are the latter. Amsterdam is full of beautiful brick houses lining canals. It's beautiful to look at and thanks to its pedestrianized nature it's also quite peaceful. However, one could argue that it all looks the same and if you've seen one canal street, you've seen them all. This is why I think two days in Amsterdam are quite enough and you should also take the free boat from Central Station to the north side and visit the hip places there, such as the A'dam Lookout or the NDSM area.

Amsterdam in the morning is the best, before the hustle and bustle gets going. I loved the museums and wandering around the canals. There are lots of food choices. Once you figure it out public transportation is good. Was easy to get to airport on the train. You really need to keep an eye out for bicycles and scooters, the way they ride around and have the right of way is scary at times.

The city's rich history and vibrant culture always make me feel connected to the past while experiencing the present. The picturesque canals lined with colorful houses evoke a sense of timelessness and beauty that is truly captivating. Exploring the bustling markets, cozy cafes, and world-class museums is always a delight. The friendly locals and the laid-back atmosphere add to the city's unique charm. Whether it's taking a leisurely bike ride along the canals or enjoying a peaceful moment in one of the many serene parks, Amsterdam never fails to leave a lasting impression. I can't wait to visit again and immerse myself in the enchanting allure of this amazing city.

If you want to learn about Dutch culture, don’t go to Amsterdam. It’s just a tourist attraction. If you like visiting busy cities, then you’ll like it. It is possible to find quiet streets and cafés if you go off the beaten path. The boat tours are nice as they get you off the crowded streets

This is my place to go when I want to spend a weekend in Amsterdam. The place is so green and cosy that instantly you are transport to a chill ambient. The cocktails are really good in both places (Restaurant and rooftop bar) I like to choose a room in the 8th floor and I always pay a bit more to have a room with terrace or the Suite that has an increible V shape with awesome views. Pool and Spa are great too! This hotel for me has a great price/value ratio and I found it nicer that some of the 5 star hotels in the city.

We arrived very early in Amsterdam and were able to access our room much earlier than expected. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The advance assistance by WhatsApp was also very useful. There's a very good breakfast buffet. The hotel is located a little way from the city centre, but is quieter as a result. Also, there are good bus connections right outside the hotel and the walk into town through Westerpark is very nice - there are also plenty of cafes and places to eat around there.

Best hotel we stayed in of the three hotels we stayed during our multi-city European tour. Room was clean, quiet, spacious and - get this - had ocean view! That view alone, for me, was worth the money. The location was only a 10-mins tram ride to Amsterdam Central and the tram stop was close-by. Perfect location if you prefer to stay far away from the crowded city centre but close enough to get to it quickly. There is also an Albert Heijn outlet nearby, should you have any need for groceries.

The location north of central Amsterdam was great as it was quieter than in the city centre and yet easy to reach with a ferry from the central station which ran 24/7. The breakfast was good, comfortable beds, nice sized rooms, good pubs/restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. Good internet, breakfast was also good. Parking is available at the hotel (20 euros per night) or outside on the street with a parking ticket which worked out cheaper than the hotel parking.

We preferred staying here than in the City Centre as it’s very quiet and also only 3 stops to Central Station on the tram which is a 5 min walk from the hotel. The staff were professional, very friendly & could not have been more helpful when our Airline cancelled our flight a few hours before we were meant to head for the airport. Location: perfect by tram 15mins to city centre (Leidseplein). To Central Statio it takes by metro 40 mins or 2x trams 35mins. However, train is faster 10-15mins (but its a different ticket). P+R is excellent there if you travel by car (even cheaper as the Hotel offers 15eur/night). Pet-friendly. Our little dog was with us for 15eur/night.
