FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Center near the waterfront, and savor the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Outdoor markets sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

People are generally helpful but be aware that there are bad people as well. My friend and I once in Shibuya experienced a man eagerly wanted to help us to buy the train ticket and he snatched the money from my hand and bought the ticket and quickly took the change and cough heavily onto it and told us to give him all the change... It was quite scary. Overall it is a good place to visit but the train systems are a bit complicated. I could only find the JR train map and there are so many private company train lines and they don't even have a map. There are even different stations sharing the same numbers which is confusing. it is hot everywhere, they are very conservative in use of Air-conditioning, we had terrible experiences at the hands of new bangladesh migrants who have Japanese residence permits now! . Local Japanese people are very very nice and hospitable.

    Tokyo was beautiful and amazing!

Tokyo was beautiful and amazing! I did not have nearly enough time to explore it the way it deserved to be explored. You need AT LEAST 5-7 days to explore all of Tokyo. Unfortunately, due to the length of my trip I only had 2 days and missed out on so much. Overall, I highly recommend visiting this city to anyone who comes to Japan. Be ready for big crowds and lots of shopping!

Was only there for three days but did one day in and around Asakusa, second day around shibuya and shinjuku, then the last day around Ginza and central tokyo. Definitely missed some things as they were shut on specific days so double check that when planning but felt three days was enough as it's quite a hectic place. It was fairly easy to travel around and I would recommend you see the Teamlabs Borderless exhibition if possible. Walked around 30,000 steps a day so a good pair of shoes is a must! Also if gluten intolerant make sure to either download an allergy card in Japanese or scout out places to eat beforehand, not many places can accommodate you or understand you when explained in English (which is fair!). Shopping is unrivalled.

Tokyo is extremely nice city from the first view. This what you never see is the great climate. It is good to rest there! City is very clean and comfortable to walk, drive and travel. The only thing to remember is that it is a really big city and reservations of strategic points in advance are what I recommend.

We had a lot of fun and new experiences on our trip - you could see how much of a stress visitors are making on there rails and other transportation though. Be respectful of their customs and always be courteous and polite - if you know a few phrases use them. Try not to be the big splash in the calm pond - and if possible, avoid the areas that are tourist traps and always carry cash! I drove from Ueno to Osaka and back to airport and it was a blast! Way less stressful than running for the trains and dealing with the walking and crowds.

I had to get used to the big crowds at first, but since I was staying in Shibuya (close to the scramble square and other touristy attractions) this was inevitable. An absolutely wonderful city, and as a solo traveler I felt very safe. Clean streets, polite people, beautiful sights. Will definitely come back and highly recommend a visit to this beautiful city (include a daytrip to Mt. Fuji, you won't regret it! :))

It is located very near the Shinjuku New South Gate exit. The Yamamoto line is accessible from there. My husband and I had an easy time going to the tourist spots in Tokyo because of this. The airport limousine also picks up and drops passengers in front of the hotel. So location is perfect. The breakfast buffet is also very good - coffee was good;’tea was plenty. There also very good restaurants near it and not necessarily Japanese. Also Family Mart. All in all, the hotel was perfect for new visitors like us.

Close to the Shinjuku station, so very easy to access. Typical entertainment area - the famous Godzilla statue cinema is around the corner. The hotel's lounge area is perfect for an otaku: mangas, anime DVDs all over the shelves. The hotel part very clean, less noisier than other capsule hotels. The capsule is plastic, a little bit noisy when you hit accidentally. The bed is fine...but the pillow is super old school japanese hard pillow...but within few minutes you can find out how to use to be comfy.

Great alternative to a hotel as it was spacious and had all the amenities perfect for a family, especially a kitchen and washing machine. Yoyogi station was a much easier station to navigate than Shibuya / Shinjuku, and the accomodation was located within easy walking distance, with a nearby supermarket and convenience store. Only thing to be aware of is the stairs, so if elderly or low in mobility, this may be an issue. Check in instructions were clear, and communication was prompt.

The Ichigaya station is just 5min walking distance, which makes it very convenient to reach many destinations within Tokyo including the Studio Ghibli in Mitaka. The hosts of this hotel were very attentive and friendly. It had a familiar feeling, which we as a family always appreciate. We loved this hotel and we think its the best value for money in Tokyo!

Location was great, especially for those exploring Shinjuku/Shibuya. Very vibrant nightlife. The hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Stayed in a standard double room -- non-smoking. My husband and I thought the room was a perfect size for us. This is not always the case being an American traveler in Japan, as Japan's hotel rooms are much smaller.

Fantastic and helpful staff, located in a calmer area of Tokyo away from the typical tourist destinations of Shibuya and Shinjuku. Its in a very good location, 2 min walk from Shin-Okubo station and 10 mins walt to Shinjuku. The hotel is a typical capsule and recommend to those who are looking for trying out a one or two night stay in capsule hotels. The lounge is quite spacious.

Clean and quiet. This was the best value I found in Tokyo. We did not want to stay in tiny capsule hotels. You are a bus ride away from the Shibuya station. From there you can go anywhere. The owner is friendly. We were happy with our stay.

The food And drink area free of charge all day long. The public bath. The available facilities. The cleanliness. Definitely a luxury capsule hotel. Also the position, stone away from Shinjuku station.

Great location on the subway lines. Quick access the Shinjuku and Shibuya, as well as Tokyo station. Comfortable and relatively quiet hotel in the middle of town.
